Democrats Are Urged to Become RepublicansPosted on Jun 5, 2006
That’s the call from Michael Tomasky in a cover story for the American Prospect. He means republicans with a small ‘r’—defenders of the idea of a republic that serves the common good. Tomasky writes: “What the Democrats still don?t have is a philosophy, a big idea that unites their proposals and converts them from a hodgepodge of narrow and specific fixes into a vision for society.”

What sort of common good program is it that doesn’t include Troops Out Now? A pretend to be for the common good program, that’s what!

I do think Dems have a cohesive set of goals, the “common good” that’s been referred to recently, but they just aren’t good at stating it. Dems have to be as good at that as Republicans are at spouting “limited government,” etc etc.
