In the Quinnipiac Poll, Bush garnered twice as many “worst of” votes as Richard Nixon. Ronald Reagan was picked as the best.

Editor & Publisher:

A new Quinnipiac Poll finds American voters selecting George W. Bush as easily the worst American president in the past 61 years, with fellow Republican Ronald Reagan picked as the best.

Bush was named by 34% of voters, followed by Richard Nixon at 17% and Bill Clinton at 16%, according to the Quinnipiac University national poll of over 1,500 voters released today. Leading the list for best President since 1945 is Ronald Reagan with 28%, and Clinton with 25%.

While Democrats and Republicans split widely on the “worst” choice, 35% independent voters picked Bush.

Reagan gets entirely too much credit. Bush, Reagan, Nixon—are all equal in terms of competence. OR—more accurately—incompetence.

Reagan presided over the long and deepest economic ‘depression’ since Hoover’s ‘great depression’ of the 1920s and 30s. Job growth and GDP grown during the Reagan years is among the WORST Presidents since WWII.

Like Bush, Reagan presumed powers that didn’t exist. He waged a great war on terrorism but, in fact, TERRORISM GOT WORSE, three times worse than under any Democratic President since WWII. That statement is based upon FBI terrorism stats compiled and published originally by Brookings, hardly a ‘liberal’ organization!

Reagan was a liar. He fabricated a lie about a ‘cadillac driving welfare’ gra’ma! That was just one of his more obvious bald faced lies.

On foreign policy, he was a total screw up, BLOWING a chance for total nuclear disarmament at Rekjavik where Mikhail Gorbachev had offered to completely dismantle its nuclear arsenal if the US would do the same. Reagan chickened out of the deal because he knew his ‘neocon’ handlers back home would have had his hide.

Reagan was a lousy President. Until Bush, he was the very WORST EVER!

Reagan was an asshole!!!! He raised the age of retirement to 66.67.68 depending how youg you are now! He let terrorists kill marines in Lebannon and did nothing but send the rest home. He put a means test on widow/widowers benefits-offset for having another pension! He who got rich off of government retirement screwed the rest of us! Fuck that bastard! May he rot in hell SOB! He also cancelled stem cell research and gave free abortion rights to California sluts!!

Lets see, most people under 15 years old really aren’t into politics. So a poll about a Presidential rating should really not include people under 15. This means people who were under 15 in 1979 (when Jimmy Carter was President) probably know nothing about him and don’t remmber the Iran Contra Affair, long gas lines, etc. and definitely should not be polled. The only people who can give an approval rating on Carter are people who are 42 years old today. Everyone elses opinion is pointless. With that in mind, you can now understand why Jimmy Carter is supposedly now considered one of the best presidents according to this poll.

Sorry folks, but polls that elicit subjective responses to questions such as posed in this one produce, AT BEST, irrelevant data.

This whole president “thing” that elevates essentially common, ego-centric men to god-like stature is ridiculous. “Best” at what? “Worst at what?

What the polls compile is a comparison of apples to oranges = worthless information. Who the hell cares?

I remember Rush limburger talking about putting Reagans’ face on the Mt Rushmore monument. The reality is that he should have been imprisoned for treason. but the repigs can spin anything. the group that voted reagan #1 is the same group that still supports bush.

The Soviet Union fell as a result of Reagan spending so much on defence that the soviets couldn’t math it and completely wrecked the already disasterous communist system. You can’t ignore what a big global difference it made to have the Soviet Union collapse.

Who were the registered voters polled?  Reagan beat out Roosevelt, Truman, Eisenhower, Kennedy?  Amazing and frightening. Can we assume that if not for the war in Iraq, Bush would not be the worst president in 61 years?  We need a background check on Quinnipiac University.
