Iran Deal: Good Faith or Another Charade?

Iran and the Dixie Chicks

Even though the U.S. and five other countries have offered Iran a series of rewards for giving up its nuclear program, Bush and Cheney have given the world ample reason to be skeptical that the White House has any intention of settling this issue diplomatically.

(And we’re not alone in this sentiment.)

Washington Post:

VIENNA, June 1—The United States and five other major world powers agreed Thursday to offer Iran a broad new collection of rewards if it halts its drive to master nuclear technology, but they threatened “further steps in the Security Council” if Iran refuses.

The agreement, announced here by British Foreign Secretary Margaret Beckett following extended talks, brings general unity to the countries’ approach to Iran after months of discord, diplomats said. It is intended to sharpen the choice facing Iran, giving it a clear reason to opt for cooperation over confrontation on its nuclear program.

“There are two paths ahead,” Beckett told reporters, as Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice and counterparts from Russia, China, France, Germany and the European Union stood at her side. “We urge Iran to take the positive path and to consider seriously our substantive proposals, which would bring significant benefits.”

Yes, Iran has as much right to an atomic weapon as any of the current club. They are surrounded by countries that possess atomic weapons. I’d be surprised if Russia or China will take this issue before the U.N. China needs the oil and Russia is pissed off at the U.S.

If I were a leader of any of the 5 above nations, I would agree with the U.S. and kiss their ass. All of those nations can have WMD’s but the Iranians can not. Where is the logic here? History lesson; didn’t the Germans have a guy named Hitler, didn’t the Russians “cause” the Cold War, didn’t the French roll over during the German Blitkrieg, doesn’t China ignore human rights and eat dogs, didn’t the U.S. invade a country on the premise of WMD’s and being responsible for 911.

Yes, Iran should listen to this group of bullies!
Oh, the U.S. and Iraq were allies against the Iranians, further evidence that the U.S. does not have a bias toward Iran.

Rice you need another job!
