Ned Lamont
From nedlamont.com

Ned Lamont, wealthy cable entrepreneur, public school teacher and darling of the progressive blogosphere, is mounting a serious challenge against Connecticut’s pro-war Democratic Sen. Joe Lieberman.

A key Democratic Party opinion-maker says this about Ned Lamont, who is challenging Joe Lieberman for a Conn. Senate seat: “He’s intelligent. He’s accomplished. There are no personal warts. He teaches in the Bridgeport public schools. How many people of his pedigree and background go do that?”

  • Earlier: See Lamont’s Truthdig interview.

    N.Y. Times:

HARTFORD, May 29 ? Ned Lamont has already shown that his candidacy should be taken seriously. On May 19, a third of the delegates to the Democratic state convention voted to endorse him instead of Senator Joseph I. Lieberman.

Now, with just over two months until he faces the senator in the Aug. 8 primary, Mr. Lamont hopes to defy polls, political experts and the calendar and win the nomination. To do so, he must greatly expand on the support he has won for voicing opposition to Senator Lieberman’s support for President Bush on key aspects of the war in Iraq.

Mr. Lamont’s skills as a campaigner, some political observers say, are critical to accomplishing his goal. They cite his high energy, his sharp wit and his knowledge of issues, and his ability to convince voters that he is a legitimate challenger. His great wealth and his willingness to use it also cannot hurt.

I support Ned even though I’m from another state I feel once he has earned his wings in congress as in “do the job he is elected to do” he has a decent shot at higher office or Cabinet level at the most, The kind Sen. Joe Lieb. has indeed forgotten his way and needs not to be shown the way basically he needs to do a gut check and and rethink his time as a Sen. and consider dropping out clearing the way for a new fresh face and player, I have family in Minn they say it is common for a republican to run as a democrat? meaning be a democrat in name only which is the case for the likes of lieberman Joe Biden, Charles schumer, schumer surprises me the most with his bellicose statements that he’d vote for the Iraq war all over again or the Patriot Act!! etc, etc, no matter there past records; obviously things have changed these politicos indeed these politicos are indeed old furniture that need to be discarded and replaced with people more in-tune with there districts and less in-tune with the beltway gang of lobbyists.

What is this “forgotten what it means to be a democrat” stuff?

Why do you get to decide what opinions democrats must have?

Senator Lieberman is thoughtful, intelligent, principled, and willing to make unpopular decisions.

Ned Lamont is none of these things and is in for a surprise on August 8.
