No Tampon Ads During the Papal Visit

No tampons allowed

A Polish town has banned the advertisement of tampons, among other things, during the pope’s upcoming visit. Apparently a reference to a woman’s reproductive system makes the Church squeamish.

The Polish town of Wadowice has banned ads for alcohol, contraceptives, lingerie and tampons during Pope Benedict’s visit.  “[T]he faithful may feel hurt if programming devoted to the Pope’s visit is interrupted by frivolous ads,” says an exec at the state-run TV network.

A Salon e-mailer opines: “Apparently the female reproductive cycle and its consequent necessities are somehow evil and offensive to the Church hierarchy?”

Salon adds: “I mean, did the Virgin Mary not menstruate? Or is it just that the church prefers pads?”

Truthdig wonders: Maybe they’re still reeling from “The Da Vinci Code’s” fantasy that Mary Magdalene had Jesus’ child.

BBC:

Rome is the home of ice cream and for generations, citizens and tourists alike have forsaken dessert in a restaurant for the simple pleasure of sitting outside with a takeaway cone.

The last Pope, John Paul II, used to have tubs of his favourite flavour, marron glace, delivered to his summer residence.

But if his successor, Pope Benedict XVI, wants to see how Polish ice cream compares during a trip there this week, he is likely to be disappointed.

I can’t imagine the pope sitting around watching much Polish television, for some reason.

Did they ban Viagra ads too?

I’m with R.E. Earl on the constant ads for aids to or cures for bodily functions. That includes:

- the toenail fungus creature

- the bears crossing their legs and grabbing hunks of toilet paper

- superabsorbent pads of any kind, no matter what they are supposed to be absorbing

- the discussion of bowels in all their tribulations - plugged up or overactive

- the people who stuff themselves full of fatty food and then take indigestion tablets so they can stuff themselves some more

- the 72-hour boner pills which confine the person to the house as a stud-prisoner (and I can’t imagine WHY those stupid women are grinning and being all coy). I wouldn’t want to do ANYTHING for 72 hours straight, even if it was enjoyable to start off with. Sounds like a weekend from hell.

- using sex to sell stuff that has nothing to do with sex.

I forgot to mention in my post, however, that I too find ads offensive for tampons, pads, condoms, “feminine hygiene” products, toilet paper, most OTC and prescription drugs.

Why? Because they’re completely unnecessary… especially while I’m trying to eat my evening meal! Can’t people learn about what product suits their personal needs by asking their doctor or pharmacist? Can’t the MILLIONS spend on ads be redirected to reduce the cost so that we don’t have to pay a buck for a roll of toilet paper?

You can add to that list those STUPID, ASSININE ads for almost all vehicles. Not only do they all look alike but to my knowledge, none of them flies through the air or skids sideways across a desert. What, exactly, is the point of advertising what a product cannot do?

Right on, R.A. Earl!  I wish I could be around when Christianity takes its final bow.  I would especially love to see the Catholics’ fall from grace.

And just how do the people of Poland believe the Pope arrived into this world? or anyone for that matter…..for crying out loud.  Good grief, it’s a fact of life…...deal with it.  Glad to be NOT one of the ‘faithful’ rubber stamped ‘believers’.  I can think for myself thank you.

I’m with “big Dave from Queens”... the Pope and entourage symbolize one of the biggest cons and scams on the face of the earth, and to watch how the masses (pun intended) follow around like love-sick puppies nearly makes me puke.

Just as we laugh now at anyone who still believes in Zeus, generations to come will think us all moronic fools for buying this Christian claptrap.

And they will be correct.

Excuse me… yo, over here!  If it wasn’t for a woman’s reproductive system there would be NO CHURCH!  Thank me for pointing this out!

Why are right wing cultish lunatics referred to as “the faithful.”  How about referring to these fools as “the soulless, the brainwashed, the immoral sheep, etc…”
