NYC Mayor Bloomberg: I’d Allow Same-Sex Marriages

Mike Bloomberg
From edgeboston.com

NYC Mayor Mike Bloomberg has come out strongly in favor of allowing gay marriages.

Landing another left on the right, as the Daily News put it, New York Mayor Mike Bloomberg vowed that the city will perform gay marriages, if permitted, and came out strongly against a constitutional amendment against same-sex marriages.
What a boon for New York that a Republican (albeit in name only) mayor is acting so progressively.

N.Y. Daily News:

Mayor Bloomberg landed another left on the right yesterday, coming out strongly in favor of gay marriage - and vowing the city will perform same-sex wedding ceremonies, if allowed.

The Republican mayor used his weekly Sunday radio address on Memorial Day weekend to say he is “firmly opposed” to any constitutional amendment outlawing same-sex marriage.

President Bush and other prominent Republicans endorse the Federal Marriage Amendment, which defines marriage as between a man and a woman. The measure is set for a Senate vote next month.

Bloomberg does not have to have the theocratic, lunatic right wing nut Christian Coalition to win elections in NYC.  He is intelligent enough to know the people of NYC can actually think for themselves for the most part.  Why else would a strong democrat city in a state comprised mostly of dems put him in office.  He knows that homophobic hate spewing republicans are not as plentiful in his city as they are in cities in the “red states”.  He doesn’t need to get on the shit wagon of the RNC to win.  If it were not for democrats crossing over he would probably not be in office.  He doesn’t even need Diebold to assure his victory.
Sorry if I gave dems more credit for his being in office than deserved.  Everyone knows his political situation is clearly coralated with his millions.  He’s probably a jerk, just not on the scale of the republicans on the national stage.

R.A.
It could happen in our lifetime. If Franklin’s right, and “God” can send Aids and HIV as a plague, might it not also be possible that the bird flu or something like it could ravage the earth and discriminately deliver the earth of homophobia. Why not borrow the ‘angel of death’ for deliverance from those who are “dead in their sins and trespasses.” lol
(dear mother earth, free us from this religious ignorance, and if there be any of us left, we will take care of the birds.)

Good for him.

It won’t be during my lifetime, but someday this whole “alternative lifestyle” thing will become a complete non-issue. Those in the future will read of our preposterous hysterics and shake their heads in disbelief, in same way we can’t believe our forefathers actually burned people at the stake who were even suspected of practising witchcraft!
