Albright Criticizes Bush’s Religious Absolutism

The former secretary of state says that Bush has alienated Muslims around the world with his use of Christian dogma to discuss foreign policy.

Reuters:

President Bush has alienated Muslims around the world by using absolutist Christian rhetoric to discuss foreign policy issues, former Secretary of State Madeleine Albright says.

“I worked for two presidents who were men of faith, and they did not make their religious views part of American policy,” she said, referring to Jimmy Carter and Bill Clinton, both Democrats and Christians.

“President Bush’s certitude about what he believes in, and the division between good and evil, is, I think, different,” said Albright, who has just published a book on religion and world affairs. “The absolute truth is what makes Bush so worrying to some of us.”

If you’ve always meant to read the Bible but never got around to it, there’s good news.

You don’t need to.

All you need to do is follow the sequel. The sequel is the same old story, but in place of God, you’ve got the president.

The major actions in the drama include a bully ascendancy to the throne, a love of unjust wars fought by others in his name, and a failure to win the enduring loyalty of the people.

As you are seeing in this sequel, America’s 43rd American president has cast himself in the role of God.

What’s an especially poetic touch is that both the G and his twin, the G-Boy, are known for their bush iconography (Exodus 3:2). This shared identification turns the Bible into almost the eerie prophecy it claims to be.

Ladies and gentlemen there’s no need to buy tickets for front row seats because you’re all playing in this terrifying tale of history repeating itself.

It’s all the same politics. It’s all the same tactics of lies and violence. It’s all the same corrupt element in human nature that strives for power, control and concentrated wealth. The only difference between the burning bush and the Bush-on-fire-for God is that while many of the ancient Hebrews were smart enough from the get-go to know that God was not who he said he was, the American people are slow on the uptake. It’s taken them five years to even begin to see Bush for the lying, war-loving toad he is.

Impeach Bush.

Get your religion out of my Constitution.

Don’t far wars in the name of the God of War and make me a party to your crimes against humanity.
