Kick the Oil Habit

Check out this sobering video, which spells out the moral imperative we face to wean ourselves from dependence on oil. Robert Redford will be talking about this new campaign on Larry King tonight (May 17.)

Kick the Oil Habit:

At this year’s State of the Union address, President Bush declared, “we have a serious problem: America is addicted to oil.” But what Bush didn’t mention is that his policies have made the situation worse. Last summer, he signed energy legislation that included billions of dollars in subsidies for the fossil fuel industry, but only meager support for alternative energy and efficiency. Since then, gas prices have skyrocketed and our dependence on foreign oil has grown.

Today, American Progress is launching KickTheOilHabit.org, a campaign to expose our dysfunctional energy policy and promote a new, progressive alternative.

The video accomplishes something that Americans seem unable to: induce obvious conclusions from obvious actions.
Since ethanol is a tag of importance, it would also be instructive to let fuel-users know that turning Brazil and the US into massive agricultural fuel monocultures will further the extinction of thousands to millions of species of plants, fungi, animals, and other organisms.
Global warming will extinguish ecosystems; co-opting tropical and temperate photosynthesis for massive ethanol production promises to drive nearly as much of life’s diversity into extinction.

Do we know why nations with 92 percent oil are unstable?

A. They are sub-human islamist fundies.
B. They are all terrorists to boot.
C. The most powerful military in the area belongs to the USA and its allies, and we are gung-ho about democracy that ensures free flow of cheap oil.
