U.S. Soccer
From Brooks Parkenridge / ussoccer.com

Taylor Twellman of the United States takes the ball in front of Panama goalkeeper Jaime Penedo moments before scoring a goal in Foxboro, Mass., last year. The U.S. World Cup soccer team will be the only team whose bus will not fly its national colors—because of security concerns.

If you want an idea of the America’s image in the world, consider this: of the 32 official buses transporting teams competing in soccer World Cup, only America’s will not bear its national flag—for security reasons.

AP via Fox Sports:

FRANKFURT, Germany - The official team bus to be used by the United States during the World Cup will not bear a flag for security reasons.

The 32 official buses were presented Thursday in Frankfurt and the other 31 buses have large national flags of the their teams painted on rear sides.

German and U.S. security officials came to the conclusion to leave the flag off the U.S. team bus, an official of the German organizing committee said, speaking on condition of anonymity because he wasn’t authorized to discuss the topic.

The bus is predominantly blue in color.

I’d guess terrorists could figure out where the Americans are gonna be regardless.

As for harassment from the general public, it’s probably smart to be humble.  It’s not the players’ fault that the American flag represents a country ignorant enough to be led by war criminals.  Europeans probably recognize them better than we do.
