Sudanese villagers wait for food distribution in the Sudanese Liberation Army-controlled village of Deesa, north of al-Fasher, Darfur, in this August 2004 photo released by the World Food Programme.

The United Nations is taking the drastic step because of severe funding shortfalls. Other than Libya, none of Sudan’s partners in the Arab League have contributed any money. “This is one of the hardest decisions I have ever made,” says a U.N. director.

BBC:

The UN is cutting in half its daily rations in Sudan’s Darfur region because of a severe funding shortfall.

“This is one of the hardest decisions I have ever made,” James Morris, head of the UN’s World Food Programme, said.

From May the ration will be half the minimum amount required each day. The cut comes as the UN said Darfur’s malnutrition rates are rising again.

Amazing.  For all the solidarity of Muslim states in dealing with governments in the West, they seem to have no problem ignoring the plight of the people of Darfur…who are Muslims.  They are happy to demonstrate over cartoons of Mohammad in European newspapers, but when the Janjaweed attack mosques, pillage and rape..?

silence…and it’s deafening.
