Religious Leaders Band Together Against Gay Marriage

About 50 prominent religious leaders—including Catholic cardinals and archbishops—have signed a petition in support of a constitutional amendment blocking same-sex marriages.

N.Y. Times:

A Religious Push Against Gay Unions
By DAVID D. KIRKPATRICK

WASHINGTON, April 23 ? About 50 prominent religious leaders, including seven Roman Catholic cardinals and about a half-dozen archbishops, have signed a petition in support of a constitutional amendment blocking same-sex marriage.

Organizers of the petition said it was in part an effort to revive the groundswell of opposition to same-sex marriage that helped bring many conservative voters to the polls in some pivotal states in 2004. The signers include many influential evangelical Protestants, a few rabbis and an official of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints.

But both the organizers and gay rights groups said what was striking about the petition was the direct involvement by high-ranking Roman Catholic officials, including 16 bishops. Although the church has long opposed same-sex unions, and the United States Conference of Catholic Bishops had previously endorsed the idea of a constitutional amendment banning such unions, it was evangelical Protestants who generally led the charge when the amendment was debated in 2004.

The anti-Catholic bigots are so stupid they can’t even read.  There were 50 prominent religious leaders and 19 were Catholic—the OTHER 31 WERE NOT. “Although the church has long opposed same-sex unions, and the United States Conference of Catholic Bishops had previously endorsed the idea of a constitutional amendment banning such unions, it was evangelical Protestants who generally led the charge when the amendment was debated in 2004.’ Since Buddhists, Protestant ministers, Orthodox, Muslim clergy, etc. wear robes (called dresses by ignorant bigots)the ignoramus above must hate them as well as Catholics. A very uneducated bunch of posts.

“STATISTICALLY SPEAKING, GAY UNIONS ARE IN”

A thought regarding the GOP/TheoRight’s attempt this fall to push constitutional anti gay marriage amendments before State and Federal bodies:

Consider this scenario. A somewhat slight, multi pierced young man with a green blaze in his hair is walking down a high school corridor. He approaches a hulking figure, in this case the school’s starting defensive tackle, who is noisily slamming shut his locker.

“Hey Dude, do you know which room the gay lesbian meeting’s in?”

“Yeh, go down that stairwell and turn right. You’ll see it.”

Neither young man gives this hallway exchange a moment’s thought or reflection. The point is that, comparatively speaking, young people give less and less a fig about gay-lesbian activities, including whether or not G-L’s appropriate the word marriage to consummate their emotional and contractual needs.

What exists now is that a high percentage of older voters are against gay marriage thus controlling the voting outcome on this issue. With certitude, this will change as seniors leave the voting rolls and youth join. Polling will not only confirm this trend but also acturarially predict the future year in which the majority of American voters will vote to allow gay marriage.

This is not one of the social justice issues the Catholic church has been on the right side of.

This is just the beginning of the whoring for votes by the GOP.  They love to use hot button issues to rouse up the so called “religious” voters.  Sadly it is based upon total ignorance and bigotery, but will probably have an effect as there are many individuals that love to hide behind the Bible to justify their hate and simple mindedness.

It would seem to me that the Christians would be wise to this attempt to manipulate them in order to get their vote as this has been done ad naseum before.  As soon as the election is over, the issue is dropped until it is needed again.  Pathetic, but it works in America!

So the Catholic bishops are leading the charge against same sex marriage, undoubtedly urged on by Pope Benedict Ratzinger who has considerable experience in censorship and other forms of repression, being that, until his recent coronation, he held the title of Guardian of the Faith, the successor position to the Grand Inquisitor.  Obviously Pope BR is in a hurry.  He should be, since pedophilia is epidemic among priests (l-5% incidence according to mainstream media reports, and a major diversionary campaign is a must, lest parishioners decide, “My child be an alter boy?  And get buggered?  Hell no.”

I wonder what Christ might say to these self-appointed leaders of “Christianity.”

It strikes me as obvious that Christ’s teachings have become irrelevant to these arrogant, ignorant, highly-paid, power-mad, hypocritical demagogues.

Love is the bedrock upon which ALL “recorded” instructions from Christ were founded. Would someone please clarify for me where love has anything to do with what these “religious leaders” are proposing?

Sorry if I offend, but anyone who follows the thinking or advice these egotistical fools, is a fool himself. Unfortunately, there are many more foolish souls on this planet than wise. Any boy, do these “religious leaders” know it!
