Matthews: I’m Mad as Hell and I’m Not Going to Take It Anymore

From ThinkProgress

Chris Matthews called the White House hypocritical for its demand that the media tell the full (i.e. positive) story of the Iraq occupation--while at the same time Bush won’t allow the media to show coffins of U.S. soldiers returning home. At right, Nicolle Wallace, the White House communications director, being interviewed by Matthews.

NBC host Chris Matthews--no knee-jerk liberal--slams Bush & Co. for telling falsehoods every step of the way on Iraq.

From Crooks and Liars:

Matthews: “Well I am just going to stick to this point that the president led us in there with the background music of American culture. Everybody was led to believe that we were getting payback, we were avenging what happened on 9/11 and that we are going to get them. Vice President Cheney said we are going to attack terrorism at its base. Over and over the language was, this is where it came from, in fact most recently the President suggested that it was always the hot pursuit, like a new York police chase, we chased them back into their country. We pursued the terrorists back to Iraq and it’s all nonsense. The reason there are terrorists in Iraq today like Zarqawi is we created the opening by blowing the country apart.

Actually, Matthews’ interview could mark the tipping point of the mainstream TV media’s turn against the Bush administration. Americans don’t read, they watch TV. It could lead to takeovers of both houses of Congress in November. Unfortunately, we would then have to rely on the Democrats for some Congressional action against Bush. If they don’t act quickly with investigations and subpoenas, etc., they’re not likely to act too close to election 2008.

I suspect they will dawdle and waste the opportunity. Don’t be surprised if Bush and gang just walk away from their mess. Eventually, however, wouldn’t you think that some of them will have to account publicly, under oath, for what they have done?

Another note: it’s not online yet: Harper’s Magazine, April 2006 edition: roundtable forum of military thinkers discussing the possibility of a military coup d’etat in the U.S. Titled: “AMERICAN COUP D’ETAT.”

I wondered what Harper’s underlying point was in having such a forum. Ta-da! It’s a warning to Bush: Don’t try it. It ain’t happening.

Be patient, Matthews will turn colors again soon. Remember how he treated Bush as McArthur back in ‘04 on every show, you know the ones where he’d have five conservative commentators on to slam Kerry and Dean and one pathetic Hilary Rosen to fumble out half a sentence before being interrupted by Matthews with: “Let’s look at Bush again in this clip of him walking on stage. My god, what a great man!”

Everything Matthews says should just be ignored. Just like his awful, awful show.

You know what?  Too little, WAY too late for Matthews.  He has been talking up Bush for a long time and it is time to reap what he’s sown.

Matthews HAD to know they were lying, but he went along with it and now that they can’t credibly say things are gonna work out he’s mad ‘cuz he backed the wrong horse.

Loser.

On the day after the election in 2004, as I was boarding a bus in Phoenix for the long ride back to L.A. after working to get out the democratic vote for Kerry, I said that you can’t fool all of the people all of the time.  The wheels would start to come off the neocon wagon, probably sooner than later.  I watch now, not with a sense of “I told ya so” but rather with a sense of deep, profound foreboding.  What is more dangerous that a cornered tyrant who’s mask of legitimacy is starting to slip?  Look out America...dark times lie ahead.

Good for Matthews and not to steal his thunder it still makes me wonder why it took so long for him to wake up.

My God!

Where has Chris Mathews been for the last five years???

Anyone who was paying attention should have recognized the “Adolf Hitler” bent of this administration well before the overblown...and largely passe....events of 9/11.

Almost immediately after occupying the White House in 2001, Bush closed the records of previous presidencies which had been scheduled for release.  Why????  Other than a totalitarian leaning.

Next, Cheney met in SECRET with energy company executives...with VESTED FINANCIAL INTERESTS...to develop energy policies.  Why??? (See the preceding paragraph).

Next, AG John Ashcroft attempted to subvert Oregon’s “death with dignity” law; a statute which had been approved not once...but TWICE...by Oregon voters and upheld by the lower courts.  Why???  (Need I ask the question again?)

The never-ending litany of totalitarian actions is so clear that a blind tracker with no sense of smell could follow them.  In short, dissent was continually equated with disloyalty; questions were rewarded with dismissal; etc, etc.  Each and every attempt to reign in an off-course, idiotic, fallacy- ridden,and...yes...TRAITOROUS...administration…
was met with all the fury of Adolf Hitler at his screaming, insane pinnacle.

And all the while the Republican sycophants extended their right arms forward at shoulder high level and echoed, “Sig Heil”.  They are not only complicit, they are co-conspirators in morphing a “war on terror” into “fraud and error”!
(if I hear the idiotic term, “war on terror” one more time, I MAY VOMIT !!!

And just who has blithely exonerated their every transgression?  Who has condoned the uncondonable?  Who has excoriated the Democrats who had the audacity to meekly suggest that all was not well???

Look!  Down in the sewer.  Is it a worm?  Is it a man????  NO!!!!  IT’S “TWEETY-BIRD” !!!!

Dear Chris:

As a college student at the University of Washington in early 1990’s, I read your book and naively thought that you were a principled observer of democracy.

Unlike the treatises I, and so many other students of political science were forced to read, your book seemed more timely and more appropriate for the coming years.

Then it happened, the political tide changed again.  And with it, you.

I don’t care how mad you get at the regime you have defended for the past 5 years. You and every opportunistic reporter out there have lost credibility in the eyes of millions and I hope that you see the difference where it counts:  in your wallet.

Don’t try to save your worthless ass now, I ain’t buyin’

I paraphrase your man of the last 5 years, “Fool me once ..err ummm welll a fool dont get fooled twice”

Sincerely,

Your Biggest Fan
