Iran Agrees to Talks With U.S.Posted on Mar 16, 2006An Iranian security official announced today that Iran has accepted our request to engage in a discussion of Iraq’s political future. It seems that the White House has turned, hat in hand, to its latest “boogeyman” to save our bacon in Iraq.
Iranian nuclear negotiator Ali Larijani said Tehran would agree to talks to “resolve Iraqi issues” and help establish an independent government. The White House said the US would talk about Iraq, but not about Iran’s controversial nuclear programme. The White House will talk about Iraq but not about Iran’s nuclear program. Therefore the proposed meeting (if it occurs) is sure to conclude with, “The government of Iran is willing to help you in Iraq, Mr. President, but only if you’ll settle with us on the nuclear program issue.” Now how’s our president gonna do that? He can’t, not if he’s to make war upon Iran. If he doesn’t have the threat of a nuclear war, how’s he to win public support for a war upon Iran? Let’s see, without being able to use the threat of nuclear attack, what would he say to the public about his reasons for wanting to make war against Iran? What would be his excuse? Hmm, perhaps he could resort to, “Hey, they’re nothing but infidels, and since I’m in touch with God himself, how’s about my making this a religious crusade?” Not sure that’ll work this time, though. Seems it’s been tried before.
