Doctors Attack US Over GuantanamoPosted on Mar 9, 2006BBC: More than 250 medical experts have signed a letter condemning the US for force-feeding prisoners on hunger strike at Guantanamo Bay, Cuba. The doctors said physicians at the military prison had to respect inmates’ right to refuse treatment. The letter, in the medical journal, the Lancet, said doctors who used restraints and force-feeding should be punished by their professional bodies. Some 500 terror suspects are being held without trial at Guantanamo Bay. Previous item: Fastow: Enron's Lay 'Lied About Enron Finances' Next item: Spineless in South Dakota Elsewhere: . I agree. It is simply tragic that these prisoners feel such dispair that they choose to die of starvation. If that is their decision, force feeding them to keep them alive is improper, and the forcefeeding efforts should not be the work of physicians who take the Hypocratic oath to first do no harm. Force feeding is harmful and most likely quite painful.
