Patriot Act Hall of Fame / ShamePosted on Mar 3, 2006Truthdig says: Only nine Democrats and one Independent voted against the most sweeping abridgement of American freedoms in a generation.
AP WASHINGTON - The Senate’s passage of the USA Patriot Act hands President Bush a victory in his troubled second term and allows the Republicans to polish their tough-on-terror image for the midterm elections. The 89-10 vote on Thursday was months overdue and came only after a Democrat-led filibuster that attracted GOP support forced Bush to accept modest curbs on the government’s power to investigate suspects in terror probes. Truthdig says: The renewal includes some modest curbs on the original bill’s excesses. Still, it passed 89-10, which is surprising, considering (a) the uproar over Bush’s warrantless eavesdropping scandal; (b) his abysmally low approval ratings. Are we really surprised that the same bunch who picked Gore and Kerry to “lead them to victory” and promised to “count every vote” in 2004 pulled the same crap with the Patriot Act? I have absolute confidence that the Dems will blow the 2006 elections, and will continue to ignore glaring irregularities with the voting machines, as well as everything else.

I’m late coming in here, but what the hell. It’s phone calls, emails, pony express, whatever time to notify Boxer and Feinstein and Harman, my crooks, that I intend not to re-elect them. Of course I emailed Feinstein a few months ago begging her to at least think about impeachment. Her handler wrote back that impeachment was out of the question. I wasn’t aware that it had been crossed out of the Constitution. Lapham’s piece in this month’s Harpers is brilliant.

Thursday was a black day for America. The Democratic Party, despite the nine Senators who voted against the Orwellian Patriot Act, has once again proven that it has lost its soul and become a mere appendage to the the “eternal” National Security State, better known as the Military-Industrial Complex Scam that Eisnenhower, a Republican ironically, warned us about. But the bigger picture is that this freak show, run by arrogant cynics suffocating in their own hubris, is an abomination to the universe and an obstruction to the evolution of humanity. The Greeks figured it out millenia ago. Hubris is its own executioner.
