O’Reilly Threatens Caller re Olbermann

Posted on Mar 3, 2006

The Bill O’Reilly-Keith Olbermann feud reached a ridiculous zenith (or nadir) on March 2 when the Fox News host threatened a caller who merely mentioned the MSNBC anchor’s name.

Bill O’Reilly and MSNBC’s Keith Olbermann have been feuding for a while now (background story here, a video example, and another clip), and on Thursday, when a caller to O’Reilly’s show merely mentioned Olbermann’s name, Bill cut the line and said, “We have your phone number and we’re going to turn it over to Fox security, and you’re going to get a visit”—as though the caller was threatening O’Reilly—when in fact O’Reilly was threatening the caller!

Too often, the media operate on a sort of “gentlemen’s agreement” not to criticize each other so it’s sometimes entertaining to see reporters and commentators step out of the “objective” pose, no matter how bizarrely.

It all started last Thursday when FNC host Bill O’Reilly announced a petition drive to get MSNBC to bring back fired host Phil Donahue out of “concern” for the network since the replacement host, Keith Olbermann, has actually lost viewers in the timeslot compared to three years ago when he first took over:

We got him today.  One mention of Keith Olberman and Bill wet his pants.  After a week of pinpricks (about 3-5 mentions of Olberman), this one finally got to Bill…

In this call, you’ll hear Olberman’s name mentioned.  It didn’t get broadcast - Bill dumped it.  This sound comes from the Bill O’Reilly premium membership I just paid for.  (I vomited in my mouth as I hit the “Finalize Order” button).

Tomorrow I want to have a big push.  Today we reduced O’Reilly to making false and empty threats.  Tomorrow, crush him.

O’Reilly’s manical obession with “da competition” is not new. Years ago, I was invited to be a guest on his then-obscure Fox News program as something of an expert on the topic at hand. In inviting me to appear on the show, O’Reilly’s producer said Bill wanted me to explain and discuss something that was going on that represented a major setback for O’Reilly’s competition. I calmly told the producer that Mr. O’Reilly’s spin on what was happening was incorrect in my opinion and that I simply wouldn’t be able to explain something that wasn’t taking place. I suggested that I might not be the right guest for his show. The producer said he’d be back in touch. A few minutes later, the producer called back and said, fine, he wanted me as a guest anyway. So I agreed, mainly because I had a policy at the time of cooperating with media almost always. When my time to appear on camera arrived, O’Reilly immediately began asking me to comment on the event that I had already told his producer was not taking place. When I told O’Reilly that I disagreed with his premise, he just kept insisting that the situation was as he saw it and that I, an “expert” guest, was simply wrong. And then my segment quickly came to an end. I had been simply a device for Bill to give the world the truth according to Bill. It has since become his trademark. It’s one reason he rarely gets a really good and informed guest to appear on his show anymore.

Obviously, O’Reilly needs a spiritual touch-up… achieve balance with his feminine side.

This is so awesome.  These are Keith’s Glory Days, he is bringing down a tyrant, he is deflating a gasbag, he is winning a war.
I am so happy.

Bill O’Reilly is a puppet to the corrupted GOP, he’s made a billion $$ from poor saps that think that “he’s watching out for them!”  He’s no different then Karl Rove, a muscle man for the third Reich….er, I mean Right.
