Tony Blair: Shut Down Guantanamo PrisonPosted on Mar 2, 2006Al Jazeera: The US military detention camp at Guantanamo Bay in Cuba should be closed down, the British prime minister has said. Speaking to the British parliament on Wednesday, Tony Blair also repeated his opinion that the camp, used to house terror suspects captured by the US, was an “anomaly”, but said it was important to remember the context in which the camp was set up. Truthdig says: The British prime minister becomes the latest to urge the closure of the infamous detention center in Cuba. Jimmy Carter, Kofi Annan and Sen. Joe Biden, among others, have all made similar pleas, which the White House has brushed off. Hey, we need enemies. If they aren’t multiplying fast enough all by themselves, we have to create them. What better way than to imprison, torture and possibly kill people to make their friends and relatives and...hate us. Of course the cabal in this admin., they of linear thinking, believe that torturing people will deter other people from doing bad stuff - just like the death penalty that (doesn’t) deter crime. But the real reason is, we need enemies. What else are Repubs going to run on this year.
