Tony Blair: Shut Down Guantanamo Prison
Posted on Mar 2, 2006
Al Jazeera: The US military detention camp at Guantanamo Bay in Cuba should be closed down, the British prime minister has said.
Speaking to the British parliament on Wednesday, Tony Blair also repeated his opinion that the camp, used to house terror suspects captured by the US, was an “anomaly”, but said it was important to remember the context in which the camp was set up.
The British prime minister becomes the latest to urge the closure of the infamous detention center in Cuba. Jimmy Carter, Kofi Annan and Sen. Joe Biden, among others, have all made similar pleas, which the White House has brushed off.
