U.S. Troops: Pull Out of IraqPosted on Feb 28, 2006FT.com (Financial Times): Most American troops in Iraq believe that the US should withdraw within the next year, according to the first poll of US military personnel in Iraq. President George W. Bush, whose overall approval rating fell to a new low of 34 per cent this week, has repeatedly said the US would finish the mission in Iraq. But a Zogby International/Le Moyne College poll found that only 23 per cent of US troops believed that they should stay “as long as they are needed”. Truthdig wonders: Does this mean that Bush is unpatriotic because he’s not “supporting the troops”? Note when reading the Financial Times article, a Bush apologist says the poll is wrong because more than 100% of troops who have fulfilled their commitment re-enlist.
Now, never mind that re-enlistment is coerced: we will “stop-loss” you and keep you here anyway, or you can re-enlist and be paid a re-enlistment bonus. It’s obvious that the ONLY reason the DoD bothers to pay re-enlistment bonuses is for PR purposes.
But what do they mean “more than 100%”? These guys can’t even lie straight.
