AP via N.Y. Times: Google Inc.‘s concerns that a Bush administration demand to examine millions of its users’ Internet search requests would violate privacy rights are unwarranted, the Justice Department said Friday in a court filing.

The 18-page brief argued that because the information provided would not identify or be traceable to specific users, privacy rights would not be violated.

Truthdig says: This could lead to the most-fevered “U.S. v. Technology Firm” trial since the Microsoft antitrust case. Check out an excellent Truthdig essay on the issue here.

Understand that the “authorities,” one way or another, by legal or illegal means, WILL get whatever they want. The “America” of today isn’t the “Ozzie & Harriet” Disneyland of yesterday. Today it’s all hardball with Corporate America and/or “the Administration” running the show. (Congress, the Senate and other elected officials can make noise from the “stands” but they’re not refereeing the game. They only “think” they’re in charge.)

The “individual” is completely expendable and WILL BE ELIMINATED before he or she can do any appreciable damage to the goals and objectives of the control freaks at the top.

You can kick up any amount of fuss, mount protests or launch legal proceedings but all efforts to “fight City Hall” will be futile. If “they” want you, your only hope of escape is to disappear… and that’s a heck of lot harder to do than say.

Quit your job, sell all your property, close all bank accounts and liquidate all assets to CASH, disconnect from all utilities and other services, get all new ID under an assumed name, change your appearance, etc., etc., and even then, if “they” want you badly enough, unless you’re very, very lucky, “they” will get you. (It’s best if you can accomplish all this in ONE day or less.)

Sure, it may take them a few tries and even a few years… but THEY have unlimited resources and world-wide contacts, and you don’t. End of game.

So where’s bin Laden? It’s my bet “they” know… they’re just waiting for the most politically opportune time to pick him up… like maybe just before the next federal election?

Is this America people, or communist China? Why would our president need to see OUR PERSONAL ACTIVITY ONLINE? WHAT PURPOSE COULD THIS POSSIBLY SERVE OUR COUNTRY?
If there is a particular site Bush needs to investigate (or person, organization) LET HIM GET A WARRENT JUST LIKE THE LAW STATES FOR SERCHING OUR HOMES OR BUGGING OUR PHONE LINES!
I admire Google’s strength in not caving in to a dictator-like order to simply hand over the public’s privacy like all the others have done!
LONG LIVE GOOGLE!
