O’Reilly Says It’s Time to Leave IraqPosted on Feb 23, 2006
Media Matters: During the February 20 broadcast of his nationally syndicated radio show, Bill O’Reilly suggested that the United States “hand over everything to the Iraqis as fast as humanly possible” because “[t]here are so many nuts in the country—so many crazies—that we can’t control them.” O’Reilly then claimed that the “big mistake” was actually “the crazy-people underestimation.” As Media Matters for America has documented, during a November 30, 2005, appearance on NBC’s Today, O’Reilly called those advocating immediate withdrawal from Iraq “pinheads” and compared them to Hitler appeasers. While I do agree that many of Islam’s laws and requirements of true believers are CRAZY TO THE MAX, I don’t believe “the big mistake was actually the crazy-people underestimation.”
The BIG MISTAKE was for the USA to ASSUME it had any RIGHT to invade in the first place. Iraq had nothing to do with 9/11 and for the US to trump up “charges” to use as an excuse to invade is nothing short of an fundamentally IMMORAL act - what Catholics like to call a “mortal sin.”
For some reason the leadership & much of the citizenry of what is potentially the nicest place on the planet to live -the USA- has the scruples of an alley cat. Trust and a good reputation are any country’s most valuable assets… and the USA has likely irrevocably blown theirs… and for what? A little oil and a better view of Islamic insanity. I don’t know which “side” is the more stupid.
I don’t recall any global vote to install the US as guardian and police of the world’s morals/political systems. While I’m appalled by the arrogance of Islam to assume it has an “Allah”-given right to have complete control of all the world’s peoples, I’m no less appalled by the foreign policies of the USA. The two are almost indistinguishable in their intent.
If the US had stayed home… the Iraquis would likely be doing exactly as they have been doing for centuries… bickering and fighting amongst themselves to the clear detriment OF themselves. This sort of profound, may I suggest genetic?, supidity and short-sightedness and ignorance is NOT EVER going to be “cured” by invasion, especially by INFIDELS.
With a religion based in such a twisted view of humanity as is Islam, those who follow are doomed, tragically, to conflict for eternity. No wonder devout Muslims will do almost anything, including killing themselves, to get to Paradise!

Things really must be bad for him to say that, and though I don’t like Mr. O’Reilly’s politics much, at least he had the nerve to admit that it’s not working.
At this point I’m concerned that we’re going to have to re invade Iraq, or end up fighting our way out, just to get our kids home.
So, I’ll welcome the support of anyone, left, right or center, who can help bring this thing to a quick end. We don’t want to waste any more lives there.

Gee, is Bill O’Lielly now a “Hitler appeaser?” Sure looks like it, huh? Or maybe he’s just being one big disingenuous jerk again, giving token criticism that he really doesn’t mean while carefully avoiding placing blame on the ones actually responsible for causing this mess in Iraq. Probably the latter, as always.

I see the lure of pointing out that OReilly has seemingly jumped ship and that his radio show statements contradict his prior positions. What I don’t see is the relevence this has in the grander scheme of things - as the people who listen to OReilly would never see these shifting statements in an unfavorable light. The masses are easily mainipulated by rehearsed rhetoric and it may be that OReilly is just testing out various excuses for the Iraq debacle on his radio audience to see what works best for future use.
