Congressional Probe of NSA Spying Is in DoubtPosted on Feb 15, 2006Congress appeared ready to launch an investigation into the Bush administration’s warrantless domestic surveillance program last week, but an all-out White House lobbying campaign has dramatically slowed the effort and may kill it, key Republican and Democratic sources said yesterday. The Senate intelligence committee is scheduled to vote tomorrow on a Democratic-sponsored motion to start an inquiry into the recently revealed program in which the National Security Agency eavesdrops on an undisclosed number of phone calls and e-mails involving U.S. residents without obtaining warrants from a secret court. Two committee Democrats said the panel—made up of eight Republicans and seven Democrats—was clearly leaning in favor of the motion last week but now is closely divided and possibly inclined against it. Truthdig says: The White House may have botched Cheney’s response to the hunting incident, but the administration sure hasn’t lost its touch when it comes to leaning on moderate Republicans (and even Democrats) to rally around the president. Call your senators--especially Olympia Snowe of Maine--and urge them not to cave in to political pressure. Truthdig says: We originally misspelled Olympia Snowe’s name, and claimed she represented the wrong state. If information obtained illegally is not admissible in a court of law, why can’t this “evidence” be openly displayed, i.e., the list be made public, and also the information obtained by the government (or it’s contractors or any other sources), that was the basis for an individual being placed on the list, along with a list of all those involved or contributing to the illegal gathering of such information, so they can be dealt with according to the law.

Calling Senator Olympia Snowe of Maine might be a good idea, too. Contact Senator Snowe toll-free in Maine at (800) 432-1599, or from anywhere else at (202) 224-5344.

Wait… Isn’t is Olympia SNOWE? of MAINE?
I’m from Washington, and I know for a fact that while both of our senators are women, neither of them is named Olympia, Snowe, or even Stowe.
