To anyone who spends any time playing online games this is hardly news.

The fact that any human endeavor will have gay participants coupled with the relative anonymity of the internet makes the presence of openly gay folks in online games inevitable.

At first I found it interesting that anyone would wish to “out” themselves in a virtual fantasy world, but on further reflection, it seemed to make sense.

The folks who decide to bring sexuality into the mix often seem to be trying to create a space where they can discuss their personal issues without necessarily having to face people they actually see day to day.

Perhaps the most surprising thing to me is how supportive and non judgmental most folks have been.  Given that average online gamer is a male in their mid twenties (see http://www.nickyee.com/daedalus/ ) I would have expected the reaction to be less tolerant.
