Former President George H.W. Bush damns “political shots” taken at his son by former President Jimmy Carter and the Rev. Joseph Lowery during the Coretta Scott King funeral last week.  Bush defends the administration’s domestic spying program, tritely invoking 9/11 as a blanket justification for trampling constitutional freedoms. Story | Listen.  See our Uncovered file on MLK and John. W. Whitehead’s timely and important piece, Spying on Martin Luther King.”

CBS | Former President George H.W. Bush has expressed dismay and anger at attacks on his son, President Bush, at the funeral for Coretta Scott King.

“In terms of the political shots at the president who was sitting there with his wife, I didn’t like it and I thought it was kind of ugly frankly,” the former president said in an exclusive radio interview with CBS News White House correspondent Peter Maer.  Story

A few months ago as I watched on TV while George Bush, Sr went skydiving for his birthday, that it would have been a great gift to the entire world if he had invited his son, GWB, to jump with him and NEITHER USED PARACHUTES.

Silly, I know… but what exactly would the world have lost?

The funny thing is that the wiretapping of King was an important part of his history, mentioning it at Mrs. King’s funeral becomes inappropriate to Republicans only because our current president is engaged in illegal wiretapping. It seems Bush supporters want to suppress information about the past as well as the present.

So, as they say, the nut doesn’t fall far from the tree. And given his mother’s comments about the evacuees from New Orleans that smacked of “let them eat cake,” this is the response that everyone should expect. Don’t say that what was said did not apply or was not true, say that that wasn’t the place or the time. MLK and Coretta would have said that it is exactly what they would have wanted and the time and place was appropriate.

This Imperial President thinks he is above criticism. The continual lies that are issued by his administration and that issue from his own mouth would have brought more than criticism from MLK and did bring criticism from the woman whose burial he dishonored by attending.

This Imperial President has sold everything that our fore fathers held dear to his rich friends and business buddies. I’m just sorry that more people did not have the courage to speak more truth to less than truthful power.

Jimmy Carter has more integrity and honor in the toe nail of his smallest toe than the Georges have in their entire lives. Jimmy Carter has walked the walk that the Georges only give lip service to. To be blunt, who gives a red rats ass what the parents of the worst President since Nixon thinks?
Maybe they should have instilled better values or more honor and integrity, but then maybe they should have had more themselves!
