Truthdig says: You might not hear it from the U.S. media, but the situation continues to deteriorate in Iraq. In the last few days:

  • BBC: At least seven people have been killed and 20 injured in twin bombings in a market in the Iraqi capital Baghdad. Three people were killed by the first explosion outside a CD shop in the Bab al-Sharqi area, police said. | story
  •

  • BBC: Support among Iraqi people for British troops will decline as the foreign force begins to withdraw, a senior soldier says. Lt Col James Hopkinson said that as Iraqis take greater control of their country “it becomes more and more difficult for ourselves to be here”. | story
  •

  • BBC: ... The Brigadier has been in Iraq for fewer than 24 hours and as the Desert Rats take control a large car bomb has exploded in Basra city, killing at least 20 people. | story

Aside from growing violence on the ground
when is somebody going to report the increased amount of air support activity being used
    that includes B-52 bombers, 2000 lbs., A-10
ground attack planes firing depleted uranium etc.
President Bush told us “major combat is over”
two and a half years ago but just on February 10, 2006   B-52s and A-10s were needed for 55 strikes in Iraq and 20 in Afghanistan.
None of this major combat air action is ever shown in the news media but it certainly contradicts the claim that resistance is
    growing weaker.
We also have hundreds of heayy airlift cargo flights daily because ground transport is still to dangerous.
Since neither Iraq or Afghanistan has an air force it would seem that US forces will be needed for the air support and heavy airlift mission for many years to come.
