AP: Thin is still in, but apparently fat is nowhere near as out as it used to be.

A survey finds America’s attitudes toward overweight people are shifting from rejection toward acceptance. Over a 20-year period, the percentage of Americans who said they find overweight people less attractive steadily dropped from 55 percent to 24 percent, the market research firm NPD Group found. | story

Americans are lazy.  We are too lazy to get into or stay in shape.  We cannot control our urges with so many things to entice our appetites.  We have so regiment or self-control.  We are disgusting.  For someone to be 5ft6in and 230lbs (as in the article) is absolutely disgusting.  The reason attitudes must be shifting is because they have included more fat people’s opinions in this survey.

Acceptance of “fat” as attractive is ridiculous! Overweight people are abundant; their numbers are swelling. The sight of a fat person is to my sensibilities, is extremly unattractive. This is not a discussion of health issues. Overweight, fat, voluptuous, zoftic, people produce a visual image that is in no way attractive. In the 1970’s and 80’s I recall a specific regonnal preoccupation with being overweight as a sign of affluence. This seemed to me, at the time to idealize the “Padron” look as success, wealth, Power, resulting in a big bellied, well dressed, bejeweled elite.
I am certain the only reason fat is more acceptible is that people have stopped searching for the root cause of their obesity. If food is consumed to excess then fat will result. O.K. but if these folks are trying to restrict their caloric intake, and increase their activity level but still gain or atleast can’t significantly lose weight; look at the food source! High fructose corn syrup, trans fats, we’re talking lab recipes. Our animal food sources are being raised with steroids, antibiotics, and other chemical adulterants. Our plant food sources are irradiated, sprayed, cellurly manipulated.
And now rather than change this regime of market driven science ruling our eccential needs with any adualterant that proves cost effective in the production of food in general; we, change our asthetic values. Again, let me state my feeling"Ridiculous!"
