St. Louis’ famed Gateway Arch.

St. Louis beat out Detroit, Flint, Compton and Camden to top a list of the most dangerous cities in America.  On the other end of the spectrum, a small town called Brick, N.J., is this year’s safest city.

AP (via SFGate):

A list of the safest and most dangerous cities overall, as compiled by Morgan Quitno Press, which bases the rankings on FBI figures released in June. The list starts with the safest cities and ends with the most dangerous.

Only cities that reported crime rates were included in the list. For example, New Orleans was not included this year because its police department did not report figures.

1. Brick, N.J.

2. Amherst, N.Y.

3. Mission Viejo, Calif.

I agree with the sentiment that the Cardinals kicked serious ass! And I commend them for their accomplishments.

Yet I can never get over the fact that matters in St Louis keep on going badly, and probably getting worse. There you have a city that takes on the worst airs of the east coast and the old south while paying fake homage to mid-west values. It then tries to make itself into a modern city of global impact. Now I live in Europe, and nobody here has ever heard of St. Louis, and that is probably deservedly so.

You know what? This is a funny story, not morbidly funny, I don’t “juke” that way. But the funny thing is, we’re the murder capital of the country, yet obviously that doesn’t mean much when you have 700,000 people in the streets for a World Series Victory parade.

Not just for one hour either, I mean I live in the city, I can see the stadium from my patio, and our fans were down there from the last pitch of game 5, till early this morning. Some were drunk, some were sobering up, but, I don’t think it mattered a damn bit, that they could be in danger…

It’s so beautiful when something like 700,000 rally in the streets that are usually crowded with a maximum of 40 people at any time, its really a great thing…

And when St. Louis has this moment to shine, to look like a great place, this study comes out, now it’s probably a coincidence, but maybe not, but jeeze, way to rain down on our national time to shine...Really uncalled for, really mean.
