Candidate Asked to End CampaignPosted on Oct 19, 2006A Republican congressional candidate in Orange County has been asked by his own party to exit the race after he was implicated in mailing threats to Latino voters. Tan D. Nguyen denies responsibility for the mailer, which said immigrants would be jailed if they attempted to vote. AP (via SFGate.com):

Right wingers seem much more dedicated and fanatical then those on the left. Why is that and what does it say about how the left should respond? This is especially important because the right controls directly or indirectly most means of mass communication.

Also of note is the the fact that one of Tan Nguyen’s paid consultants is Tom Fuentes, former longtime head of the Orange County GOP and known for his deployment of poll guards at polling stations in Latino disticts in 1988.
Fuentes now serves on the local college board - some may remember that last year he tried to cancel a study abroad program in Spain on the grounds that Spain had pulled out of Iraq.
Recently Fuentes was appointed by Dennis Hastert to serve on the national Elections Assistance Commission (EAC) - disturbing in light of his poll guard past and - with Nguyen’s scandal - his present.
