Republican Rep. Bob Ney of Ohio is the first politician to plead guilty to charges leveled in the corruption scandal that (hopefully) will bring down the constellation of other corrupt lawmakers connected to lobbyist Jack Abramoff.

NYT:
WASHINGTON (AP)—Rep. Bob Ney pleaded guilty Friday in the Jack Abramoff influence-peddling investigation, the first lawmaker to confess to crimes in a scandal that has stained the Republican-controlled Congress and the Bush administration.

Fox News has recently jumped on the Ney story.
“Convicted Congressman Ney, (D-OH), has refused to resign.”

If the press and justice dept. were still active both Reid and Norquist would be gone.

IF we had an active press
and justice department
Reid and Norquist would be in jail by now.

“Ney’s lawyers plan to recommend him for a Bureau of Prisons alcohol treatment program, which could cut dramatically the time he serves
behind bars.” - The Associated Press article

What the *#@*! How does that happen?
He pleads being drunk to lighten his sentence?
Please, somebody tell me how this makes any sense?

““I allowed myself to get too comfortable with the way things have
been done in Washington, D.C., for too long,” Ney said in a written
statement after his court appearance.” - The Associated Press article

This statement indicates he has witnessed other cases of
this type of behavior. Did he bring out this in his testimony?
No, of course not. This was a throw away statement
he used, trying to make what he did look less corrupt.
