WINTERFIRE, I too know some of these salt of the earth types.....many of them my own family......who either do not know that their churches have been hi-jacked by the likes of Gary North and his ilk, or do not want to know. My experience is they do not want to know, they have their own agenda of forcing their set of beliefs on other people and are willing to back which ever candidate who makes the correct noises even if it is as plain as the nose on your face that it is false. So for a promise of overturning Roe, laws against gays, curbing those welfare queens.....black, of course, but not admitted openly....they would back Hitler himself. SO SAVE YOUR PITY FOR SOMEONE WHO NEEDS IT.

So, what else is new? These thugs will use anything to stay in power including religion. Wonder what their Maker will have to say about that when they reach the Pearly Gate? Meanwhile, we have to suffer through another two years watching our nation being destroyed and our Constitution ripped to shreds. So, you think I am another flaming liberal? Guess again - I am a Conservative.

These fundie fools were willing accesories in their own humiliation and “betrayal.” Cynical manipulators to the core, the Bush crime family has always understood the utility, if not the ethical dubiety, of the old Latin maxim (uttered, of course, by a Roman emperor): “The people want to be deceived; therefore, let them be deceived.”
Let the Marxists (are there still any of these living fossils left out there?) play the usual exclupatory card about the “false consciousness” of the masses or whatever. Regardless of class or education level, anyone with eyes to see and ears to hear could see what this gang of crooks was up to from the get-go. As Bush himself said, “Fool me once, shame on Fool me you can’t get fooled again.”
But fooled again they were, over and over, making themselves complicit in their own degradation. These poor bastards not only bent over to pick up the soap for the Bush thugs; they asked for seconds. One “Christian” poster on this site repeatedly referred to Bush as his (and---block that image--our) Daddy. Daddy? Hey, the family that lays together stays together, right?
Or not. Now we’re supposed to bring out the Kleenex cuz, like their exemplar St. Paul, the blind who can now see have finally realized The Awful Truth. To wit, like the varsity footbal captain who sweet-talks the campus wallflower into putting out in the back seat of the Chevy and then drops her like a used jack rag, their twice-born studmeister was never interested in them for their Jesus-soaked spirit, much less what passes for their mind. He just wanted another notch on his jockstrap before moving on to the next victim. Score, Bro!
Sleazy? Next to serial-rapo Dubya, Clinton looks like a walking billboard for total abstinence.
For consolation in this time of troubles, I recommend our disillusioned religios add this little ditty from Bill Withers’ to their hymnals:
My friends feel it’s their appointed duty/
They keep trying to tell me all you want to do is use me/
But my answer yeah to all that use me stuff/
Is I wanna spread the news that if it feels this good getting used/
Oh you just keep on using me until you use me up/
Until you use me up.
He used you up, all right. But trust me: it WILL get better, with a little time and therapy. That, and, oh, say, a couple cases of Preparation H.

I guess this may seem like an odd comment by a liberal, but here goes.
I don’t give a damn what happens to people like Dobson, Foulwell, Robertson and their ilk. They do nothing but make money off fear in the name of God, which I believe is one of the most heinous crimes anyone can commit, other than mass murder or incarceration.
I do, however, believe that it is horrible that the Bush administration has, as I have suspected for sometime, used people, simple people, clinging to their faith, no matter how nutty it may seem to the rest of us.
It is an abomination!
I know some of these people. They are really the salt of the earth. They are simple people, living in the country-side, on farms, with little education.
These are scary times, and they cling to their beliefs, just as generations have done before them. These simple people are not our enemy. We should be protecting them from people like Rove, who can shatter their world.
It has always seemed to me that it is the liberals who will fight for religious freedom, not the Rethugs.
If they can bring themselves to read the book, they will be devastated. It cannot be pleasant to be called goofy by one’s “chosen” president or his staff.
I honestly feel bad for these people.

Would people be happier if Karl also read Left Behind books, watched 700 Club, and believed in the imminent Rapture?
Any coalition has to be a bit tutti frutti, a mix of apples and oranges with clashing tastes. Democrats are notoriously inconsistent and foul towards each other.
Might the Democrats be prepared to knock on doors of fundamentalists estranged from W and Karl? What might they offer them? Time to kneel and pray for Guidance?

Yeah? And the point is????
Hasn’t anybody realized that Bush ALWAYS double-crosses his allies. Always. No exception. Only the very closest insiders, like Rove don’t get double-crossed...even Cheney has seen his power cut.
Bush double-crosses Republicans, Democrats, domestic allies, Foreign Allies--the list is endless. Here are just a few, in no particular order. Add more if you like!
The PM of Canada (after MKG was inaugurated)
Vincente Fox
Tony Blair
Colon Powell
The 9/11 leaders of New York State:
George Pataki
Rudi Guiliani
Hillary Clinton
Chuck Schumer
9/11 victims and their families
Christie Whitman
Paul O’Neil
Richard Clarke and Valerie Plame
John McCain
Vladimir Putin
Erik Shinseki
Hamid Karzai
Afghanistan
Ariel Sharon
Iraq
Veterans
Paul Murtha
Newt Gingrich
Bob Livingston
Trent Lott
Marge Roukema
Katherine Harris
George H.W. Bush
Bill Clinton
John Ashcroft
John Thune
And now the Religious Right that made him President twice.
This guy’s personal coat-of-arms can only be the Double-Cross!
