Texas GOP Plays Atheist Card in Judge RacePosted on Oct 10, 2006The Republican Party of Texas has sent out a newsletter calling a Democratic nominee for a seat on the 6th Court of Appeals a “professed atheist.” A local poli sci professor says he’s never seen the religion card pushed that hard. I know for a fact that he claimed to be an atheist. I read the 2002 El Paso Times article where he made that statement.
What I find disturbing is that with a little heat, he denies making that claim, instead saying he was misquoted. Reporters don’t lie, and don’t write things like that unless they can back up those statements.
Poor Benny Franks is a typical Democrat. He’ll tell people in El Paso one thing but won’t tell the truth in Bowie County, since he doesn’t want to upset anyone in the Bible Belt. He’s a terriffic liar. If he thinks that’s what they want to hear, he’ll say it.
Should be a good year for Bowie County Republicans.

Typical Republican stab-in-the-back Swift Boat tactics of dirty tricks.
That’s like the 2000 GOP primary in South Carolina where Bush people called voters and said “Did you know John McCain has an illegitimate n----- daughter?”
Well, John McCain’s daughter probabably is “illegitimate” and is certainly dark-skinned --they adopted her from Bengla Desh. But unlike that staunch racist pedophile, Strom Thurmond, who fathered a Black daughter from a teenager and then kept her secret, the McCains did a Good Thing. And Rove Swift-Boated him on it.
Do you want a God-Fearing Bible-thumping Fascist who will keep good ol’ Texas corruption going, will bend the Law to fit the precepts of the Southern Baptist Convention and Jerry Falwell. Or do you prefer an HONEST judge who will enforce the Law, not show favoritism, especially to Christo-fascists? Isn’t it SCARY that I even have to ask this question?
You know, we NEVER have a serial killer or a school shooting in this country where the killer is an Atheist, or an Agnostic. It’s always God or Jesus or Satan talking to him.
I sometimes think, in my perverse way, that these judges who want the 10 commandments (of course the Protestant ones) in their court-room should be allowed to--and then METICULOUSLY examined to see if they EVER broke any of them--and then, when they did, ban them from EVER holding public office! They’d stop that pushy crap really fast!

Replace the word “atheist” with a religious affiliation or minority group and there would be rioting in the streets. In this backwards culture, it’s perfectly acceptable, even *politically strategic* to question a man’s morals and professional ability if he doesn’t believe in fairytales. It’s extraordinarily ironic, as you’d think the lunatic would be the whipping boy, not the rationalist.
Maybe if atheists started murdering nuns, burning flags and effigies of popes, killing civilians and promising war, terror and the wrath of deities in the afterlife, people would be a little more tightlipped about their irrational hatred of atheists. I guess there’s no fear of retaliation from people who are sane and won’t kill to protect ancient myths.

“ However, the state Republican Party questions whether Franks will uphold the law, stating in the newsletter: “Should Franks be elected in November, one would have to conclude that he will hold true to his out of touch ‘atheist’ belief system and ignore the laws and Constitution of Texas.” “
Out of touch believe system....
And that’s coming from the GOP, now that’s rich…
