N. Korea Reports Nuclear Test

Email this item Email    Print this item Print

Posted on Oct 8, 2006

North Korea claimed it successfully tested a nuclear weapon last night, fulfilling a promise made last week.  Pyongyang had planned the underground test in response to what it called “U.S. hostility.”

  • Text of North Korea’s announcement

  • BBC:

Reports from North and South Korea say the communist authorities in North Korea have carried out their first ever test of a nuclear weapon.

The North Korean state news agency said the underground test was a success.

In South Korea, President Roh Moo-hyun convened a meeting of his top security officials following the reports.

North Korea said last week that it planned to test a nuclear weapon, in defiance of international warnings, because of what it called US hostility.

Another classic Bush foreign policy failure. Bush will forever be associated with the word that describes him best “FAILURE”.

It’s a pity that the administration didn’t go thru diplomacy in full force.

One has to remember that Korea was colonized by Japan and followed by Korean War. Second, on seeing what happen to Iraq and Afganistan, nuke is perhaps the only leverage they have now.

What a pity. Bush gotta learn to talk to people.
As this writing, Bush does not talk to leaders in cuba, palestine, to some extent north korea and some other arab nations.

When will the news media stop saying North Korea “claims” it tested a nuclear weapon? Bizarre, since it is clear that they have done it.

North Korea may have just handed Karl Rove his “October Surprise.”
Americans, and I’m one of them, are too stupid to look at the White House’s bungling that led to this huge strategic blunder.
They will only see the “crazy Korean” with a bomb, which will be playing endlessly until the election.

    I hope I’m wrong.

If Bush can promote peace in the Middle East using bombs, I suppose Korea can promote peace in Asia using bombs.

Bill Clinton would have negotiated some kind of peaceful solution.  Bush with his lack of diplomacy had to go and tell North Korea they were part of the axis of evil. Bush has no plan other than to threaten blockades and then preemptive strikes.  How else do you expect Korea to react?  They are trying to get ready for the preemptive strikes!
