    N. Korea Says Sanctions Would Be Act of War

    In his country’s first formal statement since its claimed atomic bomb test on Monday, North Korean leader Kim Jong Il said he would consider additional sanctions imposed on the country an act of war.

  • Bush said he has “no intention” of attacking Pyongyang, and that the U.S. remains committed to diplomacy, but also “reserves all options to defend our friends in the region.”

    FBI Unable to Attract Arabic Speakers

    According to new FBI statistics, of the bureau’s 12,000 agents, only 33 speak even minimally functional Arabic.  It gets worse: Of the 33, none work on international terrorism.

    North Korea Threatens Another Explosion

    North Korea’s No. 2 leader, Kim Yong-nam, threatened a second nuclear test if the U.S. refuses to back down: “If the United States continues to take a hostile attitude and apply pressure on us in various forms, we will have no choice but to take physical steps to deal with that.”

    Iraq Study: 655,000 Dead Since Invasion

    A survey team made up of Iraqi physicians and epidemiologists from Johns Hopkins University has determined that the U.S. invasion of Iraq caused the deaths of roughly 655,000 people.  The estimate is more than 20 times higher than one Bush gave in December, but the researchers believe they have substantial evidence to back the claim.
