The “Enron Explorer” offers the politically inclined voyeur access to all 200,000 e-mails released during the fraud investigation. The “visualizer” is an excellent tool that creates a visual representation of each executive’s social network. Hopefully they’ll map the Abramoff scandal next.  (Via boingboing.net)

Possible U.S. Troop Increase in Baghdad

Gen. George W. Casey announced that he is considering sending more U.S. troops to Iraq in order to help quell the violence. This is a major reversal of the military withdrawal that started last December. The reductions stopped in June when the violence in Baghdad showed no signs of abatement.

Independent Surge Troubles Politicians

The number of independent voters has grown steadily in recent years, particularly in the Southwest.  Politicians have had a difficult time appealing to the less predictable group, which includes everyone from ex-libertarians to young people who think of political parties as irrelevant. 
Update: A new Washington Post-ABC News poll shows independents favor Democrats by 2 to 1.

    Skilling Gets 24 Years

    Still maintaining his innocence, former Enron CEO Jeffrey Skilling was sentenced Monday to 24 years for his role in the collapse of the energy giant.  Skilling’s remaining assets will be liquidated, with about $45 million going to a victims’ fund.
