Court Rules Against FCC Censorship

In a landmark ruling, a federal appeals court has sided with broadcasters against the Federal Communications Commission on the issue of indecency, saying the regulatory body has not adequately explained how the Constitution could permit the censorship of “indecent” language.

Kenyan Police Gun Down 21

Police killed 21 members of the banned Mungiki sect in Nairobi, Kenya on Tuesday in retaliation for alleged attacks by the outlaw group in recent weeks.  The Kenyan government recently instituted a shoot-to-kill policy for the sect, according to the BBC.

First daughter Jenna Bush (left) may be known for late-night reveling and getting kicked out of Argentina, but HarperCollins is betting at least $300,000 that she has enough gravitas to carry off a nonfiction book about AIDS and poverty in the Third World. According to Radar Online, “Ana’s Story: A Journey of Hope” is bad, but at least Jenna (unlike her dad) endorses the condom.

‘Proof’ of American Hostages

A video has surfaced that shows what appears to be the identifications cards of two missing American soldiers. The Islamic State of Iraq, a Sunni insurgent coalition, has claimed responsibility for the capture of three soldiers, one of whom was later found dead.

At Least 8 Die in Turkish Clash

A raid on a Turkish military camp by Kurdish separatist rebels left at least seven Turks and one rebel dead on Monday and seven more soldiers injured, according to the BBC.  The attack took place in the eastern town of Tunceli in the Pulumar region and is being attributed to the controverial Kurdistan Workers Party (PKK).

Iraq Casualty Surge Continues

Seven American troops were killed in half a dozen separate attacks around Iraq on Saturday. Roadside bombs, the biggest problem for U.S. troops, were responsible for most of the deaths. May was the deadliest month for U.S. troops since November 2004.
