Another European Airline Scare

Dutch authorities detained 12 passengers on a flight headed to Mumbai, India, after the plane was turned around under fighter escort.  The passengers were reported to have behaved suspiciously?using and exchanging cellphones midflight.  Later, authorities said the incident probably had nothing to do with terrorism and that the 12 passengers would be released today.

An Environmental Success Story (for Once)

Two of the scientists responsible for sounding the alarm on the thinning ozone layer have reported that the hole over the Antarctic has stopped widening, and may close within a generation or two.  If true, this proves what can be achieved when government works to address, rather than deny, an environmental catastrophe.  Global warming, anyone?

The retail giant has met its match in the Japanese consumer: Seiyu, Wal-Mart’s Japanese division, has posted $465 million in losses for the first half of 2006. It’s not looking good overseas for the shopping mecca?German and South Korean divisions were shut down earlier this year after poor performance.
