Saddam Hussein’s American nurse, in an interview with his hometown paper, revealed what life was like for the former dictator during his last years. He would save scraps from his meals for birds, tend to a patch of weeds and once asked why the U.S. had invaded, saying: “The laws in Iraq were fair and the weapons inspectors didn’t find anything.”

A Grim Outlook for 2007

A majority of Americans believe 2007 will bring a terrorist attack on the U.S., a major natural disaster and an increase in global warming, according to a new AP poll. Less than a third believe the U.S. will withdraw from Iraq, while 25 percent expect the second coming of Jesus.

Multiple Explosions Shake Bangkok

At least six small bombs exploded in Bangkok on Sunday, killing two and injuring at least 30. Many believe opponents of Thailand’s military regime are to blame in what appears to be the world’s second major case of domestic terrorism in two days, following an explosion at an airport in Madrid on Saturday.

At least four people were injured when a car bomb exploded at the Madrid airport on Saturday. If the separatist group ETA is responsible, as the Spanish government has charged, the blast would signal the end of a cease-fire that began in March.
