Want to see everything you need to know about how hopelessly out of touch Sen. Joe Lieberman is with the next generation of voters? Check out his campaign website, then check out the site of challenger Ned Lamont:
Immediately after the candidates’ Thursday night debate, Lamont’s site was jam-packed with video highlights, media reactions, blogger coverage and fact-checked responses to Lieberman’s charges. Lieberman’s site, however, barely even mentions the debates; there’s nary a blog; and his “news” page hasn’t been updated since Monday. (Update: 12 hours after the debate, the campaign posted a few paragraphs—but that’s it.) It’s such a tone-deaf approach you have to wonder who’s minding the shop over there.

In a mostly softball interview with Larry King Thursday night, President Bush said that he doesn’t get intelligence briefings on Sunday. (Presumably because that’s the day the Lord takes a break from those updates, too.)

Conn. businessman Ned Lamont, who in the polls is closing in fast on Joe Lieberman, forced the three-term senator in a debate Thursday night to defend his strong support for President Bush over the Iraq war, in addition to charging that Lieberman has made his bed in Congress with lobbyists and special interest groups.
A few elbows were thrown.

Newsweek’s former Baghdad bureau chief says that U.S. military personnel in Iraq have started reviewing journalists’ previous work and their “slant,” or point of view, before granting the reporters the right to embed with units. He said some reporters have been “blacklisted” for writing pieces unfriendly to the military.

The Department of Defense monitored e-mails from college students who were planning protests against the Iraq war and against the military’s “don’t ask, don’t tell” policy. The Pentagon apparently started digging after receiving tips through a website used for soliciting anti-terror tips from civilians and military personnel. (Link - reg req’d)

The FBI obtained Mexico’s voter lists via the same contractor that Florida Gov. Jeb Bush used to scrub alleged felons from the voter rolls. The FBI supposedly obtained the lists as part of counter-terror operations, but there’s reason to suspect those lists will end up helping President Bush’s favored candidate into office in Mexico…. Stephen Hadley, Bush’s national security advisor, told reporters about North Korea’s missile launch, “Obviously, it is a bit of an effort to get attention, perhaps because so much attention has been focused on the Iranians.”
This reminds us of a classic Andy Borowitz article a few years back that said something to the effect of “Kim Jong Il Wants to Know What It Will Take for America to Bomb His Country and Put It on the Map.” Can anyone find that link?

President Bush, answering questions posed by U.S. servicemen in the military publication Stars and Stripes, said that he basically had no idea how many times servicemen could expect to be redeployed to Iraq and Afghanistan, and admitted that he has yet to go to even one funeral for a soldier killed in either of those theaters.

Baghdad’s morgue received 1,595 bodies last month, 16% more than in May, showing that the pace of killing has actually increased since the death of terrorist mastermind Abu Musab al Zarqawi.
This is some of the most disheartening news to come out of Iraq in a long time. It’s yet more proof that we’re fighting a Vietnam-like insurgency that can survive and even prosper after the death of its leaders.
