The Questions Education Reformers Aren’t AskingA Dig led by Mike RoseEducation is moving to domestic policy center stage. The first round of competition for federal “Race to the Top” funds is over, and that competition generated a flurry of school reform activity across the nation. Fifteen states and the District of Columbia were selected and are now preparing for a winnowing round two. In addition, the Department of Education just released its proposal to revamp the important Elementary and Secondary Education Act (ESEA), which is up for reauthorization. (Its last incarnation brought us No Child Left Behind.) This proposal is already fueling local and national debate about the particulars of school reform: how to assess teacher quality, for example, or the promulgation of charter schools, or how to remedy failing schools. So far, our discussions and debates about education have been focused on these particulars, frequently sparking more heat than light. But there seems to be little alternative thinking in the approach to school reform itself. And both elite and mainstream media have pretty much fallen in line with the reigning policy talk about the problems with our schools and how to fix them. As well, no one in power is asking the more fundamental questions like: What is the purpose of education in a democracy, and are our reforms enhancing—or possibly restricting—that purpose? I wrote the following essays over the last year to address some of these broader questions.
Part One: Education ‘Miracles’ Don’t Survive ScrutinyDespite a childhood of incantations and incense, of holy cards and stories of crutches being tossed, I don’t believe in miracles. So it is with less than wonderment that I watch as a language of miracles—along with a search for academic cure-alls and magic bullets—infuses our educational discourse and policy. We started off the new century with the Texas Miracle, the phenomenal closing of the achievement gap and reduction of dropout rates through a program of high-stakes standardized tests. (The Texas Miracle would then spawn the federal No Child Left Behind Act.) Politicians and media-savvy administrators have also found the miraculous; the governor of my state, Arnold Schwarzenegger, referred to an Oakland charter school as an “education miracle.” And the pundits have appropriated the lingo. A recent New York Times column by David Brooks on the charter school of the Harlem Children’s Zone was titled “The Harlem Miracle.” And so it goes. Upon closer examination, some of these miracles turn out to be suspect, the result of questionable assessments and manipulated numbers. The Texas Miracle didn’t hold up under scrutiny. And some, like the Harlem Children’s Zone—which is a commendable place—gain their excellence through hard work along multiple dimensions, from teaching and mentoring to utilizing outside resources and fundraising. There’s nothing miraculous about their successes. Along with talk of miracles, we have the belief in educational wonder drugs and magic bullets—single-shot solutions to complicated problems: high-stakes testing, standards, charter schools, small schools, alternative teacher recruitment, slash-and-burn CEO management and so on. Each of these solutions has potential merit. Standards can bring coherence to a curriculum; small schools can result in increased student contact; alternative recruitment and credentialing bring new blood into the teaching force; some districts need the serious administrative shake-up that managerial housecleaning can provide. All good. But for these efforts to work, to increase the quality of education, other factors have to be present as well. The structural change that leads to the small school needs to be accompanied by a robust philosophy of education, a set of beliefs about ability, learning, knowledge and the purpose of education. As well, you’ll need a decent teaching force with opportunity built in for ongoing development. And what about curriculum? Or a set of ideas on how to connect school with community? The structural move of creating the small school may be central in all this—truly important—but, at its best, it will be a necessary but not sufficient condition for educational renewal. As small-schools pioneer Deborah Meier once said, you can have crappy small schools, too. Research on charter schools—most recently a comprehensive study from Stanford’s Center for Research on Education Outcomes—demonstrates the kind of variability you would expect if you didn’t believe in miracle cures: Some charters are terrific, some are average, and some are awful. The same set of issues I raise for small schools applies here: What you do within the new school structure matters immensely. The kick-ass-and-take-names managerial cleanup that we’ve seen in places like Washington, D.C., and New Orleans has indeed disrupted the status quo, and I’ll leave it to those who know those districts well to judge the legitimacy of the shakeup. But what interests me is what happens once the new broom sweeps clean. Then the same weighty questions emerge, questions involving curriculum, teacher quality and development, remediation, school-community connections and the like. To address these crucial issues, the school manager will need knowledge of human development, of teaching and learning, of the wisdom of the classroom. Because few of the new CEO types possess such knowledge, you have the rush to the magic bullet. Let me consider one more magic bullet, since recently it has been making its way through opinion pages and commentaries: alternative teacher recruitment, most notably Teach for America. (See, for example, Thomas Friedman’s April 21 New York Times column or the “NewsHour With Jim Lehrer” for July 7.) I admire Teach for America and the public service spirit that drives its recruits. In the early ’90s, I met with founder Wendy Kopp and participated in TFA summer training in Los Angeles, and I’ve taught students who have gone into the program or came out of it. Furthermore, my own introduction to education came via an earlier alternative program, Teacher Corps. So my concern is not with Teach for America itself but with the way it has been defined as yet another wonder drug, the ingredients of which are the idealistic energy of youth and an elite education. Sadly, Teach for America has become a weapon in the education wars, rather than a laudable vehicle through which young people can contribute to the education of a nation. I’m all for idealistic, hardworking enthusiasm, and I welcome into the nation’s classrooms these graduates of fine schools. But most of them teach for two years (and possibly a third) and then move on to the careers they went to college to pursue. I’m troubled by two more issues related to the magic-bullet discourse here. First, many who champion TFA seem to affirm an idiosyncratic model of professional development: that these young people’s elite undergraduate educations and their energy trump extended training and experience. There is no other kind of work, from styling hair to surgery to the pro football defensive backfield, where experience is so discounted. No TFA booster, I’d wager, would choose a med student fresh out of a cardiology rotation over a cardiologist who had been in practice for 15 years. I also want to consider the assumptions about knowledge and teaching here—or more precisely the use of the status of one’s undergraduate institution as a proxy for being able to teach what one knows. Knowing history or chemistry or literature is essential to teach these subjects, but—again this is common sense—knowing something does not mean you are able to teach it, as countless undergraduates who have sat through bad lectures can verify. Let’s consider this elite-school proxy for pedagogical expertise from one more perspective. I went through two books that profile first-rate teaching: my “Possible Lives” and Karin Chenoweth’s new “How It’s Being Done.” I also looked at the Council of Chief State School Officers’ National Teacher of the Year program. Only a handful of these top-flight teachers got their bachelor’s degrees from institutions typically defined as elite. A number hail from state universities. And a considerable number come from small local colleges with teacher education programs. Expertise in teaching is more than a function of one’s undergraduate pedigree. What miracle talk and magic-bullet solutions share is the reduction of complexity, of the many levels of hard, creative work necessary to make schooling successful in the United States. More so than many other domains of public policy, education is bedeviled by a binary polemics, a tendency to define an issue in either/or terms and then wage a pitched battle over the (exaggerated) differences. So we have the math wars, the whole-language versus phonics explosion, the knowledge versus process clash, and so on. These are fierce battles in which each side reduces the other’s argument—often to the point of caricature—and then assails it. The miracle/magic-bullet discourse plays right into this state of affairs, and both emerges from and contributes to it. Part of believing in this single-shot causality requires a simplification of difficult issues and a dismissal of other possible variables and remedies. If you have the single truth, then everything else is a target. There’s one more concern, and that has to do with failure. What happens when the miracle fades, when the magic bullet doesn’t cure the disease? For some who are ideologically inclined, there is despair, a throwing up of the hands and retreat to the dismissal of public education that we’ve witnessed over the past two or three decades. I propose that we leave the holy cards at the schoolhouse door, that we admit that educational excellence is achieved through dedicated effort along multiple dimensions—structural, curricular and pedagogical—and that we call a moratorium on the demonizing either/or polemics that create more heat than light. Unfortunately, that moratorium would probably require a miracle—but it’s one I’m ready to pray for. Continued: Business Goes to School

Why good morning drbhelthi – in your frozen state of mind it is not

But then, in your frozen state of mind, you have no idea and can have no

“Are, once they are born, children not to be autonomous thinking beings? “
The phases of life, as described by R. Havighurst, suggests several steps between birth and the arrival in life at a point when one is able to make appropriate decisions. A baby makes few decisions, and a large percentage of adults are capable of making decisions that are appropriate for three to five yr-olds. Thus, the break-down of family values, and the U.S.A.

I think that there are issues that cut much deeper into our personal lives on education than we might like to think. I believe that many teaching methods for todays youths are just “far out there” children are learning to use computers before they know what the dewey decimal syetem is and they can’t even return their books on time.
Report thisNot every family has a perfect ideals or background that they would like to encompass, so when children are being placed into the school system, children are often bringing with them their family problems oft times, their broken spirits due to confusion, hardships, abuses, etc. many different problems and the burden of teaching or the teachers abilty to perform can somewhat hindered because of the incompetancy of the student to first deal with their inner turmoil, reaching through a child and grabbing their attention span is very difficult when the child is “elsewhere logically/mentally” so there are way more challenges teachers need to deal with than meets the eye, when a child is willing and able to learn without difficulty, great, the child had conquered his/herself and has overcome inner battles, But the child is not always the one with the inner battles, teachers themselves often battle with their own inner turmoil too sometimes handicapping the student or making poor judgement calls or using just plain awfull techniques because their own ability is questionable or compromised, though a teachers pride and the self serving centers of the educational system will often not regaurd themselves as being part of the problem when they should admit that they are part of the problem.
Failure to recognize common upset, turmoil, sadness and grief or confusion is pretty bad! instead people are quick to judge like somehow the person themselves is a solution or part to a mathmatical figure with an easy answer, equating simple emotional problems with “diseases” and the “psyche world” everyone is trying to play doctor ! There is a saying, “Too many chiefs not enough indians! we allow masses of people or sometimes even 2 or 3 influence our roles as parents and as teachers/educators because somehow down the line we have found ourselves tip-toeing around one another because people have gotten so sensative about emotions we can’t just say that a person is upset anymore, because we don’t want to look like a bunch of “whiners” so we tend to overstate the obvious and inject a whole lot of socially perpetuated garbage like media junk into our heads and pass the buck on who’s to blame for our own inner turmoil, and when we can’t point a finger, we call it a disease or we then box ourselves in and call ourselves mental! we do this too ourselves and we let others do the same, we are a society of enablers ! a disease is a legit thing ! but mental is going crazy! We get influenced and persuaded and when we personally need help, we are lost, the blame game begins. Children don’t need fancy teaching systems, they need and crave basics, fundamentals, they don’t need fake superheros to tell teach the lessons they need real superheros like positive family support as well as bio feedback, yes children are human, they are not bots or toys, or dolls or pets ! they need mom and dad and close family and friends support and family members who aren’t supportive, get them the help they need otherwise children “will” model after them, if the friends or family members are terribly negative, seek on pushing them away until they get help. The same goes for “you are what you eat” as “You are who you meet”. I can only imagine how many men woman and children who are jacked up on prescription drugs for mental issues because of poor coping skills, bad nutrition and negative cycle lifestyles or little to no education themselves. Society itself is broken and needs to suck up quite a bit and learn how to cope and be a bit more self sufficient, suck in some deep breaths, stick out that chest and stand up straight.

Okay, I have had it with all the YAPPING about teaching with no results. All the concepts discussed are the products of mentalities paying homage to themselves.
Here a little practical basis for creating real learning environments:
14 students per class max
Report thisNo corporate created textbooks—create a curriculum that works to reach learning goals with the right materials.
No grades because they are pointless in real learning.
No standardized tests—because either people learn the material well enough to apply it—or they don’t.
Eye contact for everyone.
Open discussion of material amongst everyone in the class, not just the all knowing teacher and one student.
Mindful language for conversation.
Mutual respect between teacher and students.
Dump the charter schools, uniforms and everything else. This may sound simple, but putting it into practice is hard work. But it pays off when your goal is to “Educate the imagination” so well that when solving a problem the mind keeps on creating solutions until one works. Northrop Frye Rules.

There are so many excessively long posts here that I am probably wasting my time writing another post, but I would like to suggest that the tables be turned, so to speak, and that educators be asked to contribute to the business climate that so effects the minds of our people, including the youth.
The FCC controls the licensing of the airwaves. Teachers should be consulted and rules for license renewal should be changed to limit what is on television because of the effects irresponsible programming and advertising are having on our children’s ability to learn.
And another aspect of educational responsibility which is way overdue for the FCC to enforce is to take money out of politics because it has destroyed our democracy. Political debates should be required to include all legitimately registered candidates, regardless of party. Free air time for all such candidates to present their ideas should be required as a part of license renewal. And charging for or offering other than the free advertising which should be made available equally to all registered candidates, should be prohibited on the grounds that it has a negative effect on the education of the public.

Mr. Rose I think you are naive about the intent of big business in seeking to privatize and manage education in America. You contend that the intent is to ensure a skilled workforce. Nonsense. We basically have come full circle in business overreaching and exploitative involvement in America’s public education. The mission statement of tycoon John D. Rockville’s is revealing: “In our dreams, people yield themselves with perfect docility to our molding hands.” So it is today. The aim of corporate privatization of public education is two-fold, reap profits and mold minds to accept what is really America’s own worse enemy, her corpocracy.
America’s current corpocracy began with the corporate revolution of the early 1970s. It was triggered by the soon to be US Supreme Court jusice, Lewis F. Powell. Anyone who doubts what the corporate intent was in blitzing the classrooms with self-serving propaganda should read Powell’s infamous battle plan he whipped off to the US Chamber of Commerce.
I leave you with this short tweet: Corpocracy wants 2 run & teach in once public schools Look 4 bsns suits @ the blackboard & 3 Rs replaced w/ 3 Bs, buy buy buy. I will add to this tweet that the most duplicitous aim of school privatization is to teach and preach jingoistic patriotism and the expectation and acceptance of constant, endless wars and military occupations all for the purpose of expanding and protecting markets and preserving political careers.

good for reporting what had happened, even to be able to use

to change because of that analysis is a whole different thing because
other factors enter into possible action. Resistance from others who
think differently, needed resources that are unavailable, and an

In the OECD Program for International Student Assement (PISA), France scores about just as badly as the US - somewhere in the middle or just below the middle in a ranking of 35 countries that are participating in the program.
France, unlike the US has a monolithic school system that is run by its Minister of Education. After years of monolithic management, the present minister has had the bright idea to go visit the country that shows (in Europe) the best scores on the PISA exams, Finland.
Read about it here.
Now, if the head of the Department of Education in the US - in the same predicament - wanted to look at the best performer on the North American continent, it need only go to ... Canada!
What is she waiting for ... ?
I particularly like Finland’s method of finding Learning Problems quick and fixing them. In fact, a school system should have Pedagogical Psychologists doing the same sniffing around and assuring that the problem (whether native to the child or within the family is fixed).
Otherwise, I fear we shall be graduating nerds fit for flipping hamburgers in a fast-food outlet, which is not a terribly promising line of work. Like much in our society, our school system (seems to me) to have become lackadaisical - contenting itself to do the minimum.
Because, yes, of course, it is not being given the “means to to better”. No one is better able to measure the merit of that accusation than the head honcho at the Department of Education. Where there should be the financial means brought to bear upon the problems.

although basic skills are mandated there is no consensus of
what ought to be taught or be concerned with. If teachers have
any blame it is that they are required to teach to the moment and
not to think long range beyond their own classes.
When I was in public school, 7th grade was my area and my favorite
as for me that was the grade where the most energy lies. Just coming
out of childhood and into teenagehood, this age can be the most
incorrigible, unteachable group, hence the most challenging. And if a
teacher does get through, these kids go away to 8th grade with some
good learning skills.
The problem is, without a doubt, that education has become a
political football and most of those in political power have not been in
the teaching trenches to know what it is like to work with 30-35 minds
each class and guide those minds not only to learn the content but to
learn how to discipline thinking so that learning becomes facilitated
instead of impeded by distraction.
I’m afraid the technology age provides too many of those distractions.
But I also firmly believe we teachers need to ourselves learn to embrace
the new age of electronics and use them to the benefit of learning
instead of allowing them to interfere with learning. Electronics are here
to stay and only get more sophisticated. The teaching profession must
learn how to incorporate the new technologies to provide more enriched
learning experiences, learn how to use electronics for more than mere
entertainments way beyond the old calculator mentality. Basic skills
must be taught that is a truism not even debatable but the enhancement
of electronic media can bring those basic skills into almost unlimited
frontiers of learning. And we teachers also learn simultaneously.
I’ve now been teaching teachers in a teaching college of a university
Report thisfor more than a decade and my colleagues and I have developed a
curriculum that involves much critical thinking and a non-linear way
to teach any subject. As a reviewer of textbooks as well, I see that the
better textbooks all have a critical component in each and every lesson.
If students are trained to open their minds to a variety of ways to solve
the puzzles presented in learning they will be “conditioned” in a healthy
way to translate that kind of thinking into their everyday life once out
of school. To challenge what confronts them in their lives and not
become mere victims or slaves of a system. I believe this kind of
society, one that can make informed decisions will eventually lead to
better governance as more responsive and responsible politicians are
selected at the local levels and advance through the ranks to the federal
level. Not with any intention for contention, for you make very good
points, but on this I think the reverse, allenburgh: society reflects the
quality of our schools. For those kids become the font out of which
later politicians materialize. That is the social responsibility each
teacher must recognize, accept, and teach towards.

As the most accessible public institution and one
which most of us have experience with, how can our
public schools not reflect the society is which they
exist? That is to say fractious, divided, slightly
schizophrenic and more concerned with image than
substance.
I taught public school for ten years. I loved the
kids, but had difficulty with the parents,
administrators and other teachers. Standardized
testing is simply corporate welfare. Feeling that
the tests have little or no relation to life,
students bubbled in the “C” choice for every question
and were done in ten minutes.
Heterogeneous grouping is the biggest failing of our
schools. Pretending that all students are the same
is simply unconscionable and unfair to all ability
levels. I had 7th grade classes where students
reading ability ranged from 2nd grade to 11th grade.
I called it the ‘shotgun’ approach to teaching. Pull
the trigger and hit as many as you can. It’s no way
to teach. ‘Mainstreaming’ developmentally delayed
students, students with serious learning disabilities
serves no purpose other than being a ‘feel good’
story.
The problems facing our schools are not
Report thisinsurmountable. Let teachers teach but don’t also
require them to be parents, mentors, counselors, mind
readers, and advocates. Consolidate districts so
that within a small geographic area you do not have
multiple districts with multiple highly paid superintendents and assistant superintendents. Hold
teachers in the same stature as other professionals
and pay them accordingly.

Mr. Headly, according to the National Center for Education

School “reform” is a joke! Even the best-intentioned efforts are nothing more
Report thisthan rearranging the deck chairs on the Titanic.
The American public school system was once the envy of the world. In the
19th and first half of the 20th centuries, it provided workers to fuel the
industrial revolution. America became an economic powerhouse because the
schools taught the skills needed for that endeavor.
But it’s now the 21st century and our educational system is chugging along
still seeking to prepare students for bygone days. We still judge our
educational system by how well it turns out industrial cogs. Teachers are so
busy drumming “facts” into young heads that they are left with no time to teach
students how to LEARN.
There have NEVER been any studies that show a link between test grades in
school and success in the modern world. But there have been many that have
shown a strong association between lifelong success and core attitudes, such
as responsibility, self-reliance, initiative, creativity, critical thinking, and
integrity, none of which have any relevance for getting good grades on report
cards, or high scores on standardized tests. What our “reformers” should be
doing is devising paradigms that address these qualities. But they are NOT!
None of them!
It can be done. Unfortunately, the powers that control the way schools are
run do NOT believe this. Michelle Rhee? Give me a break! She and her ken
believe that what teachers must do is test, test, and TEST, leaving little time to
TEACH - teach anything of lasting value.
Why is this important? Just take a look at our last President. America took a
nosedive in every respect because he was clearly a man devoid of any principle
other than enriching his friends and acquiring reflected glory. He possessed
NONE of the attributes listed above. Integrity? You’ve got to be kidding. We
currently have presidential candidates who regularly display - proudly - their
utter ignorance. They are products of an educational system that promotes
ignorance.
What our country needs more than anything else today is critical thinkers. But
that is utterly lacking in any of our schools. Why? Because critical thinkers
aren’t easily influenced by charlatans and demagogues; and they’re the people
who are running this country. The biggest lie they tell in our schools is that
America is a democracy. A lot of hooey! We are a plutocracy of wealth - a
kleptocracy, if you will. Rich people run America and they do it partly through
maintaining an educational system that serves their greedy ambitions. Most
Americans spend much of their money on useless and even dangerous products
because they do not possess the critical thinking skills to adequately evaluate
advertising on TV. The country is saddled with a dysfunctional Congress. Why?
because most Americans were not taught the ability to recognize political ads
for the outright lies they are. And this is not just elementary and secondary
schools. How many of our colleges and universities offer courses, or even
classes on how to think? Hardly any.
There was a time, mainly in the 60’s, when education reformers were making
great headway in defining what true education could and should be. But they
were ultimately drowned out by ignoramuses on talk radio who were nothing
more than mouthpieces for the corporate powers, which wanted only for the
schools to turn out obedient employees. And today, that is what our
educational system is, a factory for turning out worker drones (and tea
partiers). That’s what everyone in decision-making authority in education is
competing to provide. The bottom line: all of this back and forth about how
America’s schools need to be fixed is nothing but a shell game. Nobody who is
truly interested in meaningful education is being listened to. It’s all about
rearranging deck chairs.

Mike Rose, I admire your work. You write with a sensibility anchored in the reality one can only see with some attention to things other that the graffiti-laden walls inside his/her own head.
I wish I could put faith in reason coming up with a national, or even a local solution to the education and training and inculcation challenges we face. Alas, my locale, like many, perhaps all others on this continental part of the US, look to the feds to do what they have never done well, and only done with mediocrity if at all.
Unfortunately for me, I cannot see how the US will be put back together.
It fell apart sometime in the last century, though I’m not sure just when. The unraveling was institutionalized during Truman’s watch, and since then, every watchman has been content to fuel the unraveling.
We no longer have any national deliberations; we have a growing host of factions, some factions mushrooming up and shriveling faster than a morel. Most of the factions that have endured are hopelessly lost in their own homeostatic self-referential “reality” perceptions. One outstanding example: we have a growing, professionally guided, embarrassingly lucrative misinformation industry; another example: we have an inattentive political class loping along behind dizzy oligarchs/kleptocrats while directing staffers to take notes on the dizzy wisdom spewed from wealth-besotted mouths for legislative agenda-filling.
Sometimes I think maybe we still have a president in speech-giving moments, but that is not a reliable perception, because the speeches have so little to do with policy or challenges we actually face. Maybe he is nothing more than a Madison Avenue script reader.
The Supremely Supercilious Judiciary has long since abandoned intelligible judgment. Even lawyers now routinely call the judicial system a crap shoot.
This is not meant to suggest we voters are altogether sensible in our choices at the booth. Out education combined with the misinformation industry years ago to sell us junk addictions for minds, bodies, souls, and whatever else we could muster while slinking through the schoolhouse days.
But, then, who knows who determines the numbers, or how they do, swept from those booths for public consumption? Would it even matter if we were all miraculously granted the world’s most divinely inspired educations? If so, how?
Have I lost faith?
Only in what I cannot discern: a US public deliberation that engages anything remotely akin to policy formulation. Yes, you are talking about what an education might achieve, IF the deliberations were sustainable.
It seems pure vanity to suppose the policy wonks care one whit what the nation needed before it imploded, or that it imploded, or that it may or may not be too late to give it rebirth. They have all those notes to collate into legislation on behalf of the dizzy oligarchs/kleptocrats.
And the script reader in chief has a camera to pose before for practicing the next script reading.
The show must go on.

“We’re like frogs in the pot of water that’s getting hotter and hotter, and we’re still afraid to even discuss the problem in its base form, even while we watch public schools in the US being destroyed,- - “ Rudolfo, May 20 at 6:50 pm
Having served in Title I ESEA schools, standard public schools and having taught at the university level, I find many ideas of Mike Rose to be applicable. Also, I find the summary of Rudolfo to be quite reasonably accurate. In retrospect, thirty to twenty-five years later, I can make several observations.
Title I schools, with Negroid pupils, Negroid administrators and Negroid counsellors had fewer “social interaction” problems than schools with a mixture of Caucasoid and Negroid pupils. Of course, puberty added complexities that were not generally present in elementary school, regardless of racial mixture. It was also my observation that standard middle and high schools, with a mixture of Negroid andCaucasoid administrators and counsellors, had fewer conflicts of a racial nature than similar schools with only Caucasoid administrators and counsellors. I tend to attribute this factor to the social-racial background of Negroid pupils, and their ability to identify with the administration – and vice-versa. Personality types of administrators, teachers and counsellors seemed to me to be of more value than the name of the university from which staff members graduated. Which, reflects on social upbringing basically, within ones family, regardless of the college or university of attendance. The alteration in educational policies and the subversion of American history, by USGOV leaders at the national level, has added an additional complexity to grade-school, public education in the USA.
The international-level observations of hogorina are generally evident in extra-U.S. coverage of international news. Operating a computer cubicle in an AIPAC, C.I.A., NSA, NASA, FEMA, Republican, Democrat, USGOV or USMilitary office setting, or the Bush ranch in Texas, automatically provides one with tunnel vision, tuned to the theme of the office of location. Obviously, neither Mike Rose, hogorina nor Rudolfo operate from such a cubicle.

You fail to address the problem as well, but you’re getting closer. Why not say the truth that cannot be said in the US, integration has destroyed the US school system. The school system now has way too many students that cannot be educated, and what’s worse, they cannot be controlled. And that’s not all, there is also constant animosity between races in the schools to the point where many schools are patrolled by armed guards and many students fear for their physical safety. Yet another piece of opinion about education in America that fails to illuminate a solution because it doesn’t address the problem. The problem is not institutional [the schools or teachers or budgets]; it’s social [the households that American students come out of].
Concede for me a few things: There are as there have always been exceptional students - smart and motivated for whatever reason to succeed in school. There are and always will be poor performing kids - saddled with lower intellect or characteristics not suited to do well in the typical school environment. So what we’re talking is all those kids in between who 50 years ago were collectively performing far better in school than kids today.
I’m going to bet you can go to just about any school district in this country and find, year after year, graduating seniors who got their entire education within the same particular chain of schools who are fully qualified to go on and succeed in college. If that happened for those students, the opportunity to do as well was almost certainly available to every student who walked into those same schools. I was never in a school or met a teacher who only wanted some of their students to succeed, who didn’t, instead, want all of them to succeed. There’s your evidence that the problem is not with the institution.
So why did all those other kids not succeed. The subject matter hasn’t changed. Algebra and proper English grammar are no more difficult to get a basic mastery over today than it was a century ago. The problem is simple - that group of kids in the middle simply aren’t applying themselves or working as hard as that same segment of kids did 40, 50 years ago. They just aren’t.
And teachers know this. They aren’t as effective because they aren’t getting the support in American households that they got back then. Teachers did okay years ago, but they weren’t exceptionally well-paid. But they had a much different social climate. Today teachers have got kids with backpacks full of gadgets [and other worse things] to distract them throughout the day. They come from single parent homes where there are not enough resources of time and energy to focus on exactly the effort a child should be making both scholastically and socially. Teachers work in an environment where vigilance against the destructiveness of lawsuits has them ever more handicapped in the ability to apply standards and expectations of performance and conduct.
Until we face this reality and begin to address these facts, all this other talk is wasted words.

Education should be primarily designed to educate citizens and workers. Not just wreedin, writin, and writhmetic, but also civics(govt, taxes, society, voting), history, parenting, consuming(shopping & financing incl credit borrowing banking mortgages etc), and health to name a few. Then also it would benefit society and our country and the world greatly if such invaluable intangibles as compassion, helping, participating, sharing, and liking yourself a little were included since so many families and ‘churches’ seem not to care about these essential values anymore (if they ever did). “History” , as a scholastic endeavor, should include the truth about American genocide, slavery and capitalism; the truth about the wars of conquest and imperialism; and the truth about the structure of government in this nation (oligarchy, not democracy). Democracy requires engaged, aware and educable people - but without a decent education which teaches decision making and critical thinking - there will be no democracy.

You keep saying that you are here to learn, which is obviously a lie, because you then persist in posting gobbledygook, trying to impose your convoluted and unimpressive opinions in areas not relevant to Education, of which you have, evidently, very little.
It is not only your spelling that is so obviously at fault, to me, but is accompanied by an even poorer ability to either write or think.
Either shut up and go away, shut up and learn, or attempt to contribute an intelligent observation, something I have my doubts is within your capabilities.
To my reasonably felt certainty, I think you are but a “Troll”. Why “She” and I have risen to the bait I suspect was occasioned by feelings of sympathy for the disadvantaged, and maybe, annoyance at crass ignorance, plus a desire to help the intellectually handicapped. My confession is that, in this instance, we have failed miserably. But you can’t sculpt in Balsa Wood.

“...debate about the particulars of school reform…”“
“...no one in power is asking the more fundamental questions like: What is the purpose of education in a democracy, and are our reforms enhancing—or possibly restricting—that purpose?”
Dr. Rose,
Also important is that virtually no one asks whether reform is even necessary. Most education reform discussions even fail to inquiry about the degree of reform needed, or in what particular areas education requires improvement.
I would suggest that it is important to recall that professional ed researchers, professors David Berliner and Bruce Biddle each accepted on faith the calls for reform in the 1980s—until they did the research, and found that though justice and civil rights issues around class and language acquisition were real, that basically public schooling in the US had never been better! (ref: The Manufactured Crisis)
I would suggest that a new professional analysis of substance is again called for.

Oh Roy. Sounds just like an old time Workers Union basher to me. Why not turn your attention to those other Unions? Chambers of Commerce, Business, Manufacturers, Associations of Medical Practitioners, Lawyers, Real Estate,Bankers, Guilds of Architects and Engineers. All are Unions with other names along with the more secretive unnamed Associations and Cartels of the mega wealthy individuals, and Corporations.
Each and every one is there, as are the Unions, to protect the interests and advance the standing of their members. Somehow it is only the “Workers” who shouldn’t be exercising the right to organise, protect and improve their employment conditions.
Somehow it is only Teachers who should be penalised for not performing to your designated standards of excellence. Now start doing the same for the Bankers and their Association members.
My brother was an on the job Union Rep & Safety Officer. The Union Secretary arrived from Head Office telling Jack to call all the men out on strike as four members had been summarily dismissed. Jack said.“Get back to the Capital, the Boss sacked them on MY recommendation, all of them were a danger to themselves and the other men, after drinking alcohol during the lunch break. (They were scaffolders). Maybe the Teachers themselves should be the deciding factor, but even that leaves it open to personal, positive or negative, prejudices and biases. I can just see people being dismissed because their religious, political or lifestyle preferences are not deemed to be acceptable.

Teachers Unions
Report thisHow Teachers’ Unions Handcuff Schools
Sol Stern
When Tracey Bailey received the National Teacher of the Year Award from President Clinton in a festive Rose Garden ceremony in 1993, American Federation of Teachers chief Albert Shanker called to say how pleased he was that a union member had won this prestigious honor. But Bailey, a high school science teacher from Florida, is an AFT member no more. Today he believes that the big teachers’ unions are a key reason for the failure of American public education, part of the problem rather than the solution. The unions, he thinks, are just “special interests protecting the status quo,” pillars of “a system that too often rewards mediocrity and incompetence.” Such a system, he says, “can’t succeed.”
Bailey is right. In the final analysis, no school reform can accomplish much if it does not focus on the quality of the basic unit of education—that human interaction between an adult and a group of children that we call teaching. The big teachers’ unions, through the straitjacket of work rules that their contracts impose, inexorably subvert that fundamental encounter. These contracts structure the individual teacher’s job in ways that offer him or her no incentives for excellence in the classroom—indeed, that perversely reward failure.
So as Tracey Bailey and many other dedicated teachers have learned, schools can’t improve until reformers confront the deadly consequences of the power that teachers’ unions wield over a monopolistic industry, not only through contracts but also through the unions’ influence on the elected officials who regulate the education industry. Until then, any reform—whether more money for the schools or smaller classes or high national standards or charter schools—will get short-circuited from the very outset.
Trade unionism is a recent development in public education. During the first 100 years of taxpayer-funded public schools, teachers had no collective bargaining rights, though many enjoyed civil-service protection. While the public schools made steady progress during those years, it’s indisputable that teachers were underpaid and often were moved around like interchangeable parts in a one-size-fits-all system. Many teachers, along with principals and other administrators, belonged to a staid professional organization called the National Education Association, to which the words “unionism” and “strike” were anathema.Inevitably, teachers working in a factory-style system figured they might as well organize themselves into factory-style unions. The big breakthrough came in New York City in 1961, when the United Federation of Teachers (UFT), led by a charismatic high school math teacher named Albert Shanker—whose recent death deprived the teachers’ unions of one of the towering figures in the American labor movement—went on strike and won the right to bargain for all city teachers. Though Shanker insisted that the struggle was about more than mere bread-and-butter issues—that it was also about improving the quality of public education and strengthening democracy—the contract the UFT signed with the New York City Board of Education nevertheless reflected the traditional industrial model. It set up uniform pay scales and seniority rights for teachers, limited their classroom hours, and required new teachers to be automatically enrolled in the union and have their dues deducted from their paychecks.
Following this example, the once conservative NEA also veered toward militant trade unionism. By the mid-seventies it had a majority of the nation’s teachers covered by collective bargaining agreements. Now the NEA and the AFT, the national parent body of New York’s UFT, together represent more than 3 million school employees, including 80 percent of the nation’s 3 million public school teachers.

How much money does it take to fire 7 teachers in LA? Try $3.5 million.
Report thisGuess how long it takes for a public school teacher in California to be granted tenure? Prepare to be shocked: It takes two years, without so much as a substantive review.
Facing enormously powerful teacher’s unions, Governor Schwarzenegger’s efforts to change the tenure rules (extending the tenure threshold to five years) have–to date–been resoundingly defeated. Unions like the California Teachers Association have spent millions to keep the two-year tenure rule in place. The Wall Street Journal took time to count the cost of this today:
“Even when bad schools close, which happens all too rarely, teachers from those schools take jobs at replacement schools or are sent to work at other schools in the system. And union contracts typically allow those with seniority to bump younger colleagues from other schools, even if the younger teachers are getting better classroom results. […] It’s not impossible to get rid of bad teachers, but it’s extremely hard and expensive. A report this month in LA Weekly noted that in the past decade the Los Angeles Unified School District “spent $3.5 million trying to fire just seven of the district’s 33,000 teachers for poor classroom performance.“ The result? Four were fired, two others were paid large settlements and one was reinstated. The paper also reported that 32 underperforming teachers were initially targeted for removal “but then secretly paid $50,000 by the district, on average, to leave without a fight.”” So as governors across the country look for areas to cut their state budgets, they need look no further than the seemingly innocuous line item “Education”. Turns out, education’s budget has nothing to do with children (at least according to the teachers unions). As it is, the California Teachers Association is asking everyone to save the date (March 3th) and “Stand up for Schools.” “It’s time everyone paid their fair share,” opines their plea that students and parents not let the state cut education funding. We agree that it’s time for everyone to pay their fair share. It’s just that teachers who shouldn’t even be in a classroom are paying no price at all. And California’s children and their parents are paying the full price.

However, a bright future is in sight, when the

usually, these types of individuals pleads with a
judge, or probationary officer, to swipe there record
clean, for the military will now take them off the
streets. Too, and the city gets rid of side-walk

friendly arguing, paling around and hand shaking, and
usually playing up to some superior, as a certified
sycophant. Wow, its’ a wonderful life. All of a
sudden, after amounting to something, getting under
the wings of Uncle Sam, a shallow world falls apart.
The military gets smart. Out of no where,a
psychiatrist holds a conference. This imposing misfit
is presented with a section eight discharge, as unfit

streets from whence he sprang.
From nothing to the top, its back to street corners

behind. No one, takes up time nor notices a
distraught personality, who all of a sudden, became
nothing again, no peers, no nothing, no free liquor
no more cigarette bumming, and from the top back to
the bottom. Here we blame judges, and probation
officers, for palming off a misfits onto the tax

PRE-ARMAGEDDEN IS A FORERUNNER OF INELUCTABLE
Report thisDETERMINISM’S MENACE In the shadows of contemporary
professional journalism and in the every day mental
recesses of honorable layman, or hundreds of loose-
minded mobs, lurks a well concealed fact, being
implanted from the womb to the tomb. This mysterious
spirit of iniquity can be traced back over a several
thousands of years. Before the great deluge mother
nature wreaked havoc upon mankind that fell into a
trap of which was set up by the identical political
forces having control over our Republican
institution. It is impossible to segregate or divide
the ever drifting of universal Judaic/Christian into
an iron-fisted grasp, of any and all, of whom believe
that the Constitution hallows no amalgamation or
alliance between religion and state. George
Washington and Thomas Paine agreed upon this matter,
but Paine realized that a somewhat mysterious
influence was amidst the Founding Fathers. Thus,
Paine wound up in a French dungeon, for going against
the ancient menace of ineluctable determinism’s hold
upon any and all minds dwelling in the universal
fields of pseudo-man made religions, as allied with
political whoredom. Actually, for hundreds of years
political reality was not to rock the boat. Of
course, a few in number had not the intellectual
ability to realize that they were merely tools of an
already One World government scheme being concealed
down through the ages by anti-social pulpit pounders,
as ready-made mouth pieces for the financial
engineers of which have full command and absolute
control over both political parties respectively. The
shame of this is that both parties are wrangling over
insignificant matters, brought to head as a veneer
from moles within. It is impertinent that pro
Communist elements must be thrown to the streets.
America must know the terror of SOCIALISM. The subtle
political power behind INELUCTABLE DETERMINISM never
forget and never forgive when openly exposed. For
sure, this poster will not make that mistake. Not one
President of this United States has failed to follow
the mysterious methods being imposed upon the people,
because they are not fully aware as to this
mysterious, not mythical, individual personality
disorder of transcensdental Oriental fundamentalism,
with its anti spiritual nature to absolutely destroy
the American Republic. Hand-in-hand with this
transcendentalism is its chief method used to compel
political whores to eat crow. This little unknown
metaphysical implant is known as GLANDULAR MURDER.
Combined, this twin method of deposing any and all
political opposition, brings on sudden heart attacks
and other deaths through causing specific glands to
over react at once. The last book written on McCarthy
mentions that the Senator knew that he was being
killed, but he could not comprehend the manner used.
This was glandular murder. At this very moment it is
being used against any movie star or politician of
whom steps out of line. This is something like being
excommunicated from some religious denomination and
being ostracized. Threading back through contemporary
history, even back to the Civil War era, several
personalities come to the fore front. President
Abraham Lincoln was caught in betwixt a rock and a
hard place. His real name was ENHOE, NOT lincoln.
This is no great measure, but why the name change?
Supposedly, the President’s ghost writers had a

extension number of people who have ever lived in this world than any
other belief-making system.
There is quite a bit of mockery in your comments, hogarina, that
belies a high quotient of egotism, please refer to Freud.
The future promises a dilution of people that skin color will tend
toward graying of the entire human population, in syncretizing beliefs,
and accretion of actions. It is what I call the Universal Leveling Factor
(ULF).
It is entertaining to watch a prancing hog, hogarina. You seem not to
be aware that your tutu droops in the back.
Using lineage or race as a measure of what will be the future falls into
fallacy that predicting events to come depends on genetic factors that
have descended from past organisms and such reliance lapses into the
delirous.
Did you know there is genetic mutation about every 40 generations,
or about a thousand years? It takes only the mutation of one letter in
the DNA sequencing for one individual to significantly change so that
their (Unique Event Polymorphism) UEP markers make a permanent new
characteristic. While groups of a population may hold certain markers
through tens of thousands of years thereby appearing to preserve a
species, and individuals within the scope of genera can change radically
affecting an entire genera which would result in physiological shifts in
other significant ways. It is so homogenous and prevalent that it shows
nature has no interest for one nanosecond what is the survival
trajectory for any organism regardless of its size. Besides, unexpected
events such as radiation or other chemical interferences could also
change the DNA sequencing. BTW: What is the lineage of a hog? Do
hogs and humans descend from the same simians? Most life forms
and non-life forms for that matter collected to become units of any
size it has been shown it is a matter of accidentally bumping into
bondable others. It is after a serendipitous event that lineages begin
and if one line meets up, also accidentally, with another that is
compatible, more generations are created.
Given that the universe is no longer in thermodynamic equilibrium as
it once was, the order-of-magnitude jumps from Plank’s time to the
present, predictions now hinge on unresolved issues in physics. When
birth and death of stars that constantly happens throughout the
universe, but which are unpredictable as to the exact moment of
change from birth and death, too many variables involved, it is far
beyond indicators of a changing universe, beyond knowledge and
intuition to make any cogent predictions. While you might have some
you don’t have all of the parts to play the game. The unpredictable
gives any augury a zero ratio to any imagination.
We have only whispers of the content of the past and don’t have all
the surrounding facts that outlines every present or past discrete event,
which makes it impossible to predict beyond any probability. Probability
always leaves open a degree of mistake.
It is only a poor man’s game you attempt to play, hogarina (poor
Report thisnot in material accumulation but poor in what you show to be your
learning.) I admit games are fun, but it is one thing to admit to a
game and another to not and to only pretend one is engaged in
reality regardless of clever masquerade.

Hog Please read carefully. I did NOT say I was a “Marine”, a group whom I respect. I was a “Mariner.” i.e. a British Merchant Seaman, and I sailed in the North Atlantic on a gasoline tanker in WW2. Commonly called the Fly or Fry ships.
My antecedents are irrelevant to my future, although I can trace on one side back to the Norman invaders in 1066 as there was a knight with the Conqueror named Sir Thomas Richard Burdett the same name occurring repeatedly through to my maternal grandfather. (Killed in WW1).
On the paternal side, Edgar is common both just south and north of the Scottish border, particularly in Carlisle, my father’s family town, and from whence came the first King of all England “King Edgar”. My remarks to my late wife, an expert on English Royalty, that I was probably the real heir to the English throne was derisively shot down in flames by her retort. “No way could you be related to him. He was known as King Edgar the Peaceable.”
As for General MacArthur. Who,like Patton, was a great self publicist. My late wife was an Australian employee in Brisbane of the U S Navy Mail and Censorship division during WW2. When first entering his office she was shocked to see him without his hat and that he was bald.
As for being my right to be an atheist. In Australia and Britain being an atheist is a non event, in both countries about thirty percent of the population are atheist with as few as twenty percent ever attending places of worship regularly, most of the others really don’t give much thought to religion. In some European countries the percentage of atheists is even higher. which surprisingly includes Portugal and Spain as being most atheistic. Probably a reaction to predatory Priests, and the highly oppressive strongly Catholic Franco period.
I didn’t see you take up on my challenge for you to declare your identity and background.

You always avoid being pinned down. Formal education
has poisoned your reason to see into political
implications, in that you pretend to be conservative.
I’ve asked you before, ” Who are you ” and you will
not come clean. yes, at times, I do use the word
whom, when the word who should be put forth. If
conversation is carried on with split personalities
the word whom is to conducted. This is because many
people have multiple personalities. Paranoids
generally fall into this category.
Try calling someone by phone that thinks they are the
center of the universe. What personality will answer
the call—it could be any one of several individuals.
Would you comprehend as to whom you to converse with,
of course not. It would be idiotic to think in the
singular, in dealing with several personalities, all
encased within the mind of one pathologically driven
lunatic.
Originally, my intention was to attempt to get you to
thinking and you are the opposite. You should become
more inductive to newer thought before condeming
others. I have noticed another poster putting you in
your place as to the manner in which you dodge
answering.
And now, Tom, I will use the term WHOM when referring
to you as one individual with no other bridge to
cross other to live with subtle personalities of
which you aren’t aware. For me, it’s to the one (you)
as to whom, as an individual, dealing with himself in
first person. Another observation is known as one,
(whom ) goes mumbling to them selves. This is a form
of delusional egos.
In summing up, good advice to you is to study up on

Hog. I offer gratuitous advice.
Many years ago I was told. To make a clear argument, be accurate, concise, and use only long words where short ones do not suffice.
If sending a letter to a Politician always ask a question directly so that it must be answered, and this applies not only to Politicians.
Never confuse the message with side issues, and irrelevancies. When stating what you consider factual, supply, with sources, supportive evidence.
Keep to the point.
On all of these I, respectfully, draw attention that you fail abysmally.
There is one other extremely annoying habit you have.
When given evidence that your statements, previously made, are either fallacious, or without foundation whatsoever, you do not acknowledge, defend, or apologise, just carry on at another tangent as if you had never made spurious assertions. This is a common tactic of Politicians in interviews.
When I have asked you a question you act as if I had written nothing, this is no different to asking a question, when in the same room, and being deliberately ignored. At a bare minimum that would be seen as extremely poor manners. It shows that you actually haven’t come to learn, but just to push a point of view on diverse matters, often irrelevant to the debate, generally at variance with ours. This is a pity as there is evidence that you are trying to think, sometimes succeeding. But you do seriously need to take on board my earlier advice and then edit, edit, and edit again.
In closing I am not about to correct your spelling or grammar, the former, “Spell Check” is on your computer to be used, the Grammar comes with education and experience. If you are, primarily, self taught, I can only suggest you find a better tutor or improve the present one. Education begins when you leave school, and should last a lifetime.

SHEANONYMOUS..I am very sorry. Thought that you would
submit to the first person, as to myself, in knowing
that those adjectives were to be reversed. Demeanring
others is no sport of mine! Here are my thoughts
surrounding Satan’s, collectively, shysters, as
agents of despair and their father Lucifer!
Incidentally, you gave a grand lecture on scripture.
Three thousands years past, a good men stood before
lawyers. Actually, He was tried four times at night,
in violation of the law, in which night procedures
were repugnant. Our Supreme Court does its dirty work
openly at day break. If committed in day light, what
manner of evil would these hand-picked snipes do at

BUZZARDS AND LAWYERS
This bird, VULTURE, reminds me of the legal system,
because of the methods used between lawyers and
judges, as the bail bonding racket has become a full-
fledged go-between racketeering industry, of vast
proportions, in every state of the Union. Naturally,
this does not imply that we do not have honest legal
advisors. This shoe of professional racketeering is a
bit more uglier than the bird previously viewed.
More than likely, millions of dollars are passed

These creatures are, the ones who are guilty, of the
lowest ever put on the earth. Too, this racket is
handed down from generation to generation. No one can
break in on this little nest egg, as a closed knit
society unto them selves. Many have tried but always

to bring on vomiting. This matter will be fuller
explained latter. So far we have had legalized

criminals—corrupt judges, lawyers and bail bonds
men. Come back later and your blood will run cold or
follow the wranglins of the Supreme Court while a
string of souless shysters work their criminality
through the State Department, Department of Interior,
lobbyers in Congress, Fema, Swat and and in all areas
of national affairs of fifty stagnated states. Our
form of political system is a vast organ of
swindelers, most likely descending from the lineage
of Satan, when He had a class action abortion after

Thank you, hogarina! I had more than a nice day. It was wonderful.
Those with whom I interacted were very fine healthy-minded human
specimens.
You appear to suffer the same ills many on these blogs suffer:
Attributing to others things they have not said. It is a fault that
belies a self-consciousness of being too small minded. How you
concluded I was under the weather was a delusion. I’m always
happy and look forward to what the day will bring. You are too
attentive to my state of mind, you ought to pay more attention
to your own.
I did not say you seemed to worry too much. Perhaps you do, but I do
not know if you do, to any degree. I said perhaps you think too much.
My experiences with the legal profession has been dismal, never
“uplifting.” I don’t let my rancor for them keep me awake at night.
I read your post to Tom Edgar with much interest. You claim a kind
of conspiracy is at work, a “well-planned” global depression. Can you
provide references or evidence and name the principles involved? It is
one thing to make gauzy accusations and another to have something
substantial to rest on. It could be that Lucifer’s influence is in control,
if, that is, there was such compelling force. And what type of force is it
anyway, the alleged rebelliously independent archangel whose wings
were removed when kicked out of heaven?
A brief digression (you have learned by now it is my routine to
elucidate): Did you know that Lucifer was the word meaning ‘brilliant
star,’ a title given to the King of Babylon (Isa. 14:12) to denote his
glory. The Judaistic Lucifer was appropriated from the Babylonians,
precursors of the Middle Easterners. Much Hebrew biblical mythology
was “appropriated” from the Babylonians while held captive in 6th c.
BCE. The word became perverted when the Jews and Christians needed
a scapegoat conception for all the ills in the world. The Jewish culture
assimilated much from the Babylonians, such as their alphabet and
calendar, as well as religious practices and customs. Therefore,
Christians inherited their culture in a direct line from the Babylonians.
Too much history to discuss here and now, but worth the read if anyone
is interested.
Etymology of the romanticized Old English Lucifer aka Satan: from the
Latin Lucifer meaning morning star, light bearer, from lux (gen. lucis )
+ ferre “carry.” It is believed that Lucifer, the proper name of Satan
(Islam’s Shaitan), began when it appeared in the Hebrew Bible to
translate the Greek Phosphorus, who was among the progeny of Titans
Eos and Astraios, and whose light is seen as fire! and this is how fire
became associated with that woeful abode, Hell, or wherever
Satan/Lucifer/Phosphorus/Hades reside and rule. Also translated into
Hebrew as Helel ben Shahar (Isa. 14:12), “How art thou fallen from
heaven, O Lucifer, son of the morning!?” [KJV]. The verse was
reinterpreted by Christians as a reference to “Satan,” because of the
mention of a fall from Heaven, even though literally it is a reference to
the King of Babylon (Isa. 14:4). Plainly, much of our Western culture
was simply an appropriation of ancient Babylonian mythology.
I sympathize and commiserate with them, the mobs these days are not
the Republicans and their effete associates, but they are those involved
in demanding freedom and liberty, showing the Republicans exactly
what is a mob! Egypt, Liberia, Tunisia, Wisconsin, Ohio. It is viral.
Once the microbes of freedom and liberty strike, they permanently
agitate.
True, socialism as it has been known is not the answer. A hybrid,
Report thissocialized capitalism, might be. Hard work and self-esteem are as you
say, the very roots of individual freedom, but individuals who choose to
live within a social structure are obliged to relinquish a portion of
absolute freedom. How much is always the real debate, and perhaps
not suited to this forum on education.

THE TERROR OF DISREGARDING FREE SPEECH IS SELF-

America is now being driven into a well planned

chief operation is to move into select capitalistic

of pseudo-socialism, and all isms that various people

method has been used to destabilize all Third Word

First Amendment to the Constitution must be voided.
With out a doubt, our Republican/Democratic political
machine must become divided, splintered and totally
plundered, as though an unseen hand of a supposed
Luciferian influence has full control. As before
stated, materialistic greediness is only a means to
an end. To openly, steal, rob and plunder a nation, (

committed in the highest
eschelons of national government. Our Republic has
been transformed into a national (METROPOLITAN SEWER

flood of well-trained revolutionaries, as post neo
Marxists with the cry of proletarians of the world

country, whether it is of ignorance or subtly
instilled, via a national commie machine of
liberalized journalistic prostitution. The revamping

Yes, indeed, every spiel of isms that lead to the

mob intellect. And for all others of whom are aware
as to the changing tide of thought in difficult

planting the ever flippant line of thought in
difficult times, by planned inflation. Most are
innocently seduced via misinformed governmental
financial disclosure, are led astray being duped and
ignorantly misled, rail roaded into every concept of
approaching socialism, by a some what national
controlled media. PRESENTLY, AMERICA IS POLITICALLY
DOOMED, SOCIALLY WAY LAID AND MENTALLY HIJACKED.
The Southern United States is under Marxists

hemisphere. The simple-minded are loaded down with
commie inspired news concealing liberalism’s path

trifles of news-hounding. Most of all, no child or
women are safe on the streets. Police protection, as
allied with SWAT and FEMA are more prone to protect
commercial interests alone. All school children need
more protection, and proper education to sustain them
through life. Socialism is not the answer. Hard work
and self-esteem is the very roots of individual
freedom.

SHEANONYMOUS…EDUCATION IS USEFUL HERE!
Report thisQuiete a post on how not to become a lunatic. One
uppermost consideration in sustaining a normal
disposition is to stay away from lawyers, and any
atmospheric condition that smells of these legal body
snatchers. Collectively, this profession is a mental
disorder housed within the bodies of the living dead.
Their prolonged disposition is to attach individual
desires, in procreating, transposing, nature into a
look-a-like, corpses, hustling along with valises,
filled with torts that gaurantee outright robbery of
helpless souls. Socrates, ( 382 BC ), denounced these
vipers as plagues of society.
The late, Clarence Darrow, internationally known
criminal trial lawyer, noted: Never trust a lawyer!
The most upper thought of these body snatchers is to
never give a sucker an even break, nor a chump
another chance.
One must inquire as to the relationship, and this
class of professional liers, have in common with
protecting mother nature, in general too, is to
consider the odor of the walking dead and the
bacteria of soiled clothing and unbathed skin. An old
maxim, ’ the dead know nothing’, is contrary to
reasonable attention. A soul dead in heart and
consciousness is a walking zombie. Observe many of
these creatures slurking from bar to bar thirsting
for alchol. The above average lawyer, and eventually
to become judges, are known as quart-a-day shysters.
The only conribution to the living is to literally
suck the blood from the ignorant and super ignorant
and the inarticulate poor!
It is impertinent that level-headed citizens be
forewarned of this legalized iniquity of hell, thrust
upon any civilization. Some years past, a cellilord
flick was on the market, ’ The Walking Dead’. It was
well known that no lawyers would be hired as stand

Perhaps you have too many thoughts, hogarina.
It might be true that “PRESIDENT OBAMA HAS NO CONTROL OVER ?
CONGRESS.” It certainly looks as if the depraved Republicans who
wish to destroy the immeasurably less privileged, the disadvantaged,
the disenfranchised even more than they already have in the service
of their masters, Greed and its Siamese twin, Power, have the control
of Congress. Therefore….?
It is completely comprehensive how the various ?pseudo religious
Republican functionaries nationwide, with the unlimited cooperation
and endowment of the hogs of cash, also Republican, have too long
over the years used handsome fortunes to exercise coercive force to
subjugate the mass of ignorant, therefore unsuspecting humans to
sustain their collective and personal need to preserve that relationship.
Greed and Power is unequivocally the how. Were it not for the
socialistic practices and safeguards furiously won on behalf of the
masses by those of incredible humanitarian insight, bravery, and
magnanimity, untold millions of humans would have prematurely died
and those who did not die, suffered. Yes it is the supercilious likes of
you who sit comfortably at your computer spewing unending idiocies,
also pseudo-religious, that would exploit those who are less privileged
than you and your beastly vulturous brethren that eat naïve humans’
flesh and cannibalize hogs of other stripes.
It is often thought that Buddhism teaches that nothing exists. If
nothing exists, what is it that imagines nothing exists? Buddhism
does not teach that nothing exists. Quite the contrary. Everything
exists. It is attachment, unbridled attachment that causes blindness in
the world. Attachment to worldly material and contrivances, and cause
and make the helpless suffer. But the Gaddafi minded, the Kim Jong-
Ils, the Robert Mugabes and Omar Al-Bashirs, and Sayyid Ali
Khameneis, the tyrants, the despicable despots who are the real
sufferers because have lost their human impulses. And you, hogarina,
have lost your senses too. You imagine you are some avenging
creature come to save the world. A savior, a Christ.
The historical Buddha is known to have been a human being who it is
said realized enlightenment through his own efforts. Buddhism is non-
theistic, Gautama is not thought to have been a god. The Buddha did
not specifically teach there were no gods, just that believing in gods
was not useful to realizing enlightenment. Because of the mysticism
involved in achieving Nirvana, or enlightenment, those who needed the
structure of a belief system, created an entire religion around a mystery
of what is thought to be an experience of enlightenment. The entire
belief system can be explained as a psychological heightened
awareness. Committed Buddhists would argue against this elucidation.
Regardless, of how it is thought, it does have a psychological calming
effect. Let us save ourselves, hogarina.

Hogwash. For that is what you write. Shenonymous would shudder if her students (University Post Graduates)wrote such a diatribe of near unreadable nonsense.
You confuse polysyllabic phraseology with “Writing”.
It is, but only when it clearly delivers a message. You never do.
When confronted with FACTS that repudiate your statements you neither apologise nor explain. It appears that you extrapolate from the writings of others, and then disjointedly deliver them in another format.
Centralised Education is another area in which you are clearly wrong, Centralised and standardised early education, along with equal opportunities for all throughout the U S is the one area which would advance the abysmally low U S average standard. Early Public Education, in America, unfortunately, is very much a local and State initiative, with poor areas perpetuating low standards because they lack the resources of wealthier districts.
You persist in referring to that ridiculous diluvian Biblical/Ark episode although I told you it is not only impossible and provably so.
The Bible is a hotch potch of collected myths, fiction, fables with few verifiable facts. This was then collated over a few centuries, after the C E, modified several times, with some books being removed, and others added. There are so many stories to which no intelligent person would even consider credible. To quote from it as an infallible source only strengthens the impression that there is a paucity of mental acuity.
Please stop wasting valuable space, go back to feeding the Hogs or maybe to your local hill billy chapel where this kind hogwash is usually lapped up.
P S Those last submissions, both in grammar and spelling even exceeded your usual low standards. Certainly shows that the low level of American Primary Schooling is well and truly established as a fact.

THE PSEUDO POLITICAL/RELIGIOUS SPIRIT OF INIQUITY AND
THE SALVATION OF OUR REPUBLIC IS IN THE HANDS OF
INTERNATIONAL ORIENTAL GANGSTERS . PRE-ARMAGEDDEN IS
A FORERUNNER OF INELUCTABLE DETERMINISM’S MENACE in
the shadows of contemporary professional journalism
and in the every day mental recesses of honorable
layman, or hundreds of loose-minded mobs, lurks a
well concealed fact, being implanted from the womb to
the tomb. This mysterious spirit of iniquity can be
traced back over a several thousands of years. Before
the great deluge mother nature wreaked havoc upon
mankind that fell into a trap of which was set up by
the identical political forces having control over
our Republican institution. It is impossible to
segregate or divide the ever drifting of universal
Judaic/Christian into an iron-fisted grasp, of any
and all, of whom believe that the Constitution
hallows no amalgamation or alliance between religion
and state. George Washington and Thomas Paine agreed
upon this matter, but Paine realized that a somewhat
mysterious influence was amidst the Founding Fathers.
Thus, Paine wound up in a French dungeon, for going
against the ancient menace of ineluctable
determinism’s hold upon any and all minds dwelling in
the universal fields of pseudo-man made religions, as
allied with political whoredom never forgive when
openly exposed. For sure, this poster will not make
that mistake. Not one President of this United States
has failed to follow the mysterious methods being
imposed upon the people, because they are not fully
aware as to this mysterious, not mythical, individual
personality disorder of transcensdental Oriental
fundamentalism, with its anti spiritual nature to
absolutely destroy the American Republic. Hand-in-
hand with this transcendentalism is its chief method
used to compel political whores to eat crow. This
little unknown metaphysical implant is known as
GLANDULAR MURDER. Combined, this twin method of
deposing any and all political opposition, brings on
sudden heart attacks and other deaths through causing
specific glands to over react at once. The last book
written on McCarthy mentions that the Senator knew
that he was being killed, but he could not comprehend
the manner used. This was glandular murder. At this
very moment it is being used against any movie star
or politician of whom steps out of line. This is
something like being excommunicated from some
religious denomination and being ostracized.

I can assure you that Shenonymous resides on the same rock as yourself. I am, fortunately, on the other side of the world.
Far from being a “Help Mate” to “She” I can only wish I had acquired her academic qualifications, or for that matter those of my own daughter. I have actually lectured tertiary and taught secondary, but only in my own “Professional” area. I will grant you are correct in one sentence when referring to yourself.. “Far from an intellect.”
It isn’t only your spelling but the lack of grammar (it isn’t whom, but who you might be) couple that to a complete lack of knowledge in Marine Architecture, and hydrology, then include genealogy.
It is a little amusing that you try to inject yourself into this site to relate with and, apparently, gain from, an association with “Intelligent people”, (your words) but then arrogantly, whilst acknowledging our superior perspicacity, try to lecture us with your childish inane beliefs that are diametrically opposed to our collective, acquired knowledge.
Now this letter was one I started but lost in a power outage so I will try not to duplicate.
Problem Spellers? That couldn’t be said of Churchill nor Hitler along with their oratory skills at which even Mussolini excelled. Mohamed PBUH could neither read nor write. As far as we can tell, by the total lack of evidence to the contrary, the same applies to Jesus Christ. It appears that oratory could have well been an attribute of both.
The lack of reading & writing skills does not, of itself, lead to a lack of intelligence, but it does diminish the possibility of gaining knowledge, whilst acknowledging that gaining knowledge doesn’t denote intellectual capacity.
Eisenhower was one General who placed emphasis on the outcome of battles shouldn’t be at the expenditure of an unnecessary & disproportionate loss of troops, unlike Blood and Guts Patton whose only aim appeared to be self glorification and grandstanding. Bear in mind I am a WW2 participant. Patton the greatest General of WW2?? I think not. Wavell and Montgomery put him in the shade and Field Marshall Rommel was, in my opinion, the best of all. Remember it was the strategy of Montgomery that was instrumental in the victory in North Africa along with Nazi failure in supplies.(Anticipated in his strategy by Montgomery) Oh I forgot, that was before Patton and Eisenhower turned up.
Creator? who created the Creator?
As a somewhat experienced person in maritime matters I can assure you that any intelligent marine architect will know the Ark is fallacious as it is an impossible structure when made from wood. I have had my figures checked by Hydrologists and I can prove that the flood is equally, if not more so, a fiction. It just could not happen as depicted in the book of fables “Bible”. One singular depiction that I know from the latter period of my long life
is ludicrous. “A Dove appears with a VINE leaf.” I know of no vine, and I grow both grapes and olives, that would survive even a short period of total inundation. Both are intolerant of wet feet, and will die if over watered, let alone drowned in salt tainted water. They are both dry climate plants.
Any viticulturist knows he should water with BELOW the leaf irrigation systems, preferably trickle, so as not to saturate the ground nor wet the leaves which encourages fungus and mildew..
Anyone that quotes the Ark or a worldwide diluvian episode is not worthy of considering as suitable company with “Intelligent” people.

AN OPEN SYMPOSIUM WITH EDUCATED MIND BENDERS
Shenonmous falls into her own trap. Give one a free
gassing option and soon a soul reveals inhibited
repressions, of self-hatred towards genuine
aristocracy.
Aristocracy means that one is wise to the ways of the
world. ( She ) falls short on this one.
Incidentally, Gautama’s religion was a belief in him
self. This was his short coming. We notice that this
individual cared less for the life that was pushed
into the back ground. In other words, he had no idea
as to whom he might have been nor descended. Most
people harbor to forget the past. (She) does not know
as to her origins. We have an individual well
equipped with the world around her, but far from
posing as a an aristocrat. Yes, merely an
intellectual philanthropist.
The very nature of my post was to get others to
think. The result was to receive attacks, to be re-
educated, in the field of pseudo liberalism.
Clearly, most liberals hardly ever put their brains
into gear before speaking. The attacks on me were way
off base. Canines and hogs do possess natures pre-
programed existence. With the personalities of
mankind programing does not exist. Of course, as to
religious preferences.
Credit to (She) for an unusual grade of intelligence.
Shame for it being wasted in trying to water down
others with misplaced brilliance, with strange
opinions not looked into, while being programed or
poisoned by liberal frauds in higher education.
Yes, it was gratifying to learn from others with
their opinions and so-called solidified grounding in
a solidness that is not to be questioned. Life would
be more fulfilled if (She) would define clearly in
questioning the opinions of others. In any debate if
a third person fails to take sides then neutrality
always accepts what please such lean-to-
personalities. My only presumption is that ( She ) is
a week personalitie with no strings attached to any
part of life other than playing the middle.
Let me repeat. This so called lady’s stored up
knowledge is a terrific influence in a world that
needs productive advice. Why not put it to good use!

There is no ancient religion Gautama. There was a person Siddhartha
Gautama. He did not start the religion called Buddhism. His disciples
started the religion. Before you blather on a forum you might study
some history.
Siddhartha Gautama was born about 583 BCE, was raised in a wealthy
environoment, his father was a King, and also a Brahmin, which is a
priest.
In the romantic writing skills of Herman Hesse, the tale of Siddhartha
revels in fantastic mythbuilding just as all religious founders are
enveloped. When Prince Siddhartha was a few days old, a Hindu
Brahmin prophesied the Prince would be either a great military
conqueror or a great spiritual teacher. What holds Siddhartha separate
from all the religious founders/leaders is that he did not claim to be a
god nor had he any supernatural powers. He was not the founder of
the religion. Achieving awakening is the task of a Buddha, and anyone
can become a Buddha.
What the Buddha taught was a philosophy and this philosophy is a kind
of therapy. There are eight steps to health. Buddhism is often thought
of as a religion, which without question it became from the concerted
actions of his disciples, but Siddhartha Gautama was less concerned
with theology or ritual or prayer as he was with providing a tool for
individuals to use to escape suffering which is caused by desires
and one’s attachment to one’s self. Once one has understood the
true nature of the universe and comes to devote one’s life to selfless,
charitable, compassionate actions and to finally lose all sense of one’s
self, by losing all one’s desires, one then passes into a state of mind
called Nirvana. The word means “snuffed out” in the way a fire is
snuffed out or extinguished. At this point, the self no longer exists. It
is not folded into a higher reality. The self is not transported to a land
of bliss, it simply ceases to exist. This is the state that the Buddha
passed into at his death. The Buddha tirelessly traveled and taught until
his death at age 80. His last words to his followers: “Behold, O monks,
this is my last advice to you. All component things in the world are
changeable. They are not lasting. Work hard to gain your own
salvation.”
Am I a Buddhist? No. But I agree with Siddhartha, “Things are not
Report thislasting. Work hard to gain your own salvation.” Clear thinking helps.

1. How did the Canadian province of Alberta reform its educational system with

Hogorina.
Polysyllabic ramblings are no substitute for a clearly enunciated and direct argument.
To my certain knowledge there is no such religion as Gautama. The Hindu, Prince Gautama, or as he was later known.“The Buddha.” was the initiator of the Buddhist faith although he would never have agreed to that.
Therein lies a similarity to Christianity and J C. He too never founded Christianity, Followers and Disciples invented both those faiths. Buddha was still searching, and Jesus actually preached a return to the “Fundamentals” of Judaism.

Further, when searching out modern Christology, the

have a double standard contrary to our Constitution.
No doubt about it, the control over all religions are
state orientated. In America when things go wrong,

You can lead a horse to water, but you can’t make him drink. So goes the same thing with students. If students don’t want to learn what schools have to offer then what are you going to do? With the economy the way it is today, most students are saying what is the use. if I can’t get a decent job after I graduate, why should I learn what society thinks I need to be successful? This especially true for college students who are getting saddled with huge loans and debts, and no job to earn money to pay them back.

You are right, Tom Edgar, the forum has taken what seems like a
digressive track away from the specific problem of the quality of

States which in turn determines to a great extent whether there is
an egalitarian mind of the government, or if it is cosmetic like when
the conservative political element in this country has the reins and
give only lip service to the importance of education. That then
affects the quality of education and whether it intends to produce
excellent critical thinking and knowledgeable people upon high

does matter which economic philosophy is at work as to what kind

It appears that the discussion is veering away from purely discussing education. I daresay that the particular type of Government will have a great bearing on the kind of education that is delivered and, indeed, the emphasis.
But if the people of the U S A desiring improvements in education are going to wait for a change in governmental style, then it will be a very long wait.
In the meantime those countries with a left leaning, not necessarily Socialist, administration will inexorably, and progressively go further ahead.

ON CAPITALISM IN AMERICA:
While the Soviet Union lasted, US capitalists were eager to advance, along with
government, the theory and practice of “Consumer Democracy.” In essence tis
meant that the US capitalist system, equated with democracy, needed to prove
that it could produce a much higher material standard of living for its citizens,
especially US citizens.
Once the Soviet Union’s threat disappeared, US capitalists were much more
interested in globalism (consumer democracy, ie, thriving capitalism,
everywhere).
Globalism would come at the cost of ratcheting up of US poverty/exclusion
from the economy of many more American citizens and the reduction in the
relative wages of many more.
This tamping down of US consumer democracy would not cause political
problems because ...
1. No more competition from Communism/Socialism ...
2. Far higher rewards for US elites, including the upper middle class of
professionals and executives and Ivy League graduates (including liberals) ...
3. A stronger pro-corporate lobbying system, and a more right wing US
Chamber of Commerce ...
4. More effective and well funded conservative propaganda disparaging any
progressive opposition ...

Control out of Control.
When heart rhythm is somewhat chaotic, and it dances between different rhythmic states, this is an indication of health, but when it becomes consistent, it’s an indicator of impending death. The same is true of the brain; when its impulses become totally regular, this is known as an epileptic seizure.
The emphasis and weight given to “assessment” at basic levels of instruction are an obstacle to instruction. Forms of quality control or assessment rubrics necessarily damage instruction by taking time away from class preparation and the production of instructional resources. Some forms of control do incidental damage, many of them do much more. Multiplication of controls are, to put it politely, organizational auto-stimulation, which exists only to serve controllers.
Report thisThe proliferation of educational assessments and evaluations belongs in the category of what systems theorist Russ Ackoff describes as “doing the wrong thing righter. The righter we do the wrong thing,” he explains, “the wronger we become. When we make a mistake doing the wrong thing and correct it, we become wronger. When we make a mistake doing the right thing and correct it, we become righter. Therefore, it is better to do the right thing wrong than the wrong thing right.”
Our current neglect of instructional issues are the result of assessment policies that waste resources to do the wrong things right.
Instructional central planning doesn’t - can’t - work. But, that never stops people trying. The result is that each effort to control the uncontrollable does further damage, provoking more efforts to get things in order. So the function of management becomes control rather than creation of resources. When Peter Drucker lamented that so much of management consists in making it difficult for people to work, he meant it literally.
Inherent in obsessive command and control is the assumption that human beings can’t be trusted on their own to do what’s needed. Hierarchy and tight supervision are required to tell them what to do. So, fear-driven, hierarchical organizations turn people into untrustworthy opportunists. Doing the right thing instructionally requires less centralized assessment, less emphasis on evaluation and less fussy interference, not more. The way to improve controls is to eliminate most and reduce all.

But the horses are out of the barn. It is the same droning litany as
heard since Marx from intellectuals who just don’t understand the
human mind, the ordinary human mind. Not that I am against
intellectualism, as I would eulogize the development of the mind,
and as the constant and immutable liberal I am not against all
aspects of socialism, it is just that socialism and all of its extreme
forms which because human nature being what it is, lamentably but
inexorably fall into tyranny just as much as is claimed of capitalism.
In America, the reality is, everyone is a member of the Capitalist Class.
Whether they are in the Upper Elites, Middle, or Poor. And so yes, the
Capitalist Class will do everything possible to protect their status quo
and every American, rich or poor cling to the American Dream. As a
teacher who had gone into the public school environment for nearly a
decade, I have seen poor children and their poor parents who would
not trade the imagined possibility of wealth for a collectivist situation
for anything. They march to the local liquor store, not just to buy their
whiskey or tequila but to buy those lottery tickets, having the
permanent idea that Chance, Lady Luck, Destiny, Karma, Kismet, Fluke
will allow them to ride around in a Cadillac and have a big house, not
just a little one mind you, and all the Nikes you can put into a closet at
one time. Why do you think they risk their lives to come in droves from
countries like Mexico or Asia or Europe or Africa or, or, or wherever, to
America if not to find a ‘free’ life to be able to earn all that they can,
and to get that pathetic education you denigrate. I do believe you have
a parochial view.
The best form of economics would combine socialism and capitalism.
Report thisAnd that cannot, will not, happen at any level but the grass roots.
Healthy collectivism, where constitutional democracy protects all human
bodies regardless of their income, can only work where individual
achievement is possible and applauded, but where individuals realize
that life is too hard to go at it by oneself. That is the ancient,
primitive, primordial understanding the human organism has actually
realized upon birth physically, and knew it subliminally but unregulated
capitalism and tribal hierarchy influenced how humanity developed from
the feudal condition up through the mercantilism to the capitalism and
dawning of the imagined benefits of socialism of the 19th century.
