Vetting Sarah Palin

Truthdig is excited to collaborate with Capzles.com on a unique new way of telling a story – in this case, about VP hopeful (and, yes, possible president) Sarah Palin – using video, audio and text “moments” along an interactive timeline. This is a work in progress, and we’ll be adding updates continually, so check it out and let us know how we can add to it during this final stretch leading up to the historic Nov. 4 election. The “get & share” option on the bottom right side of the Capzle can be used in order to email it, get the link or embed it on another site, so spread the word and, as Robin Williams so memorably put it, share “the Palin love.” You betcha!

this is just too good:

“But watching Palin’s speech I had no doubt that I was witnessing a historic, iconic performance. The candidate sauntered to the lectern with the assurance of a sleepwalker – And immediately launched into a symphony of snorting and sneering remarks, taking time out in between the superior invective to present herself as just a humble gal with a beefcake husband and a brood of healthy, combat-ready spawn who just happened to be innocent targets of a communist and probably also homosexual media conspiracy. She appeared to be completely without shame and utterly full of shit, awing a room full of hardened reporters with her sickly sweet line about the high-school-flame-turned-hubby who “Five children later” is “Still my guy.” It was like watching Gidget address the Reichstag.”

– Matt Taibbi, discussing the most disgraceful VP pick in history.

It’s true that near-sighted lenses show the face line inset from the actual face line. And that far-sighted lenses outset the face lines. However, to be fair, astigmatism can be determined only by rotating the glasses and watching for image distortions… I’ll let you decide if the image distortions are Sarah’s external persona or her internal ocular.

Palin’s A Throwback To “The Great Dictator”

              as adapted from:

“Der Fuehrer’s Face” by Spike Jones &    His City Slickers

When der fuehrer (er, Palin) says

      We is the master race

      We heil, heil

Right in der fuehrer’s (er, Palin’s) face

Not to love the fuehrer (er, Palin)

      Is such a great disgrace

      So we heil, heil

Right in der fuehrer’s (er, Palin’s) face

cyrena,
Interesting bit about the poster. Thanks.

If you look at the photos at:
http://palinglasses.googlepages.com/home
it makes a convincing case that the lenses in her eyeglasses have no corrective
power (it is possible to deduce this from photographs), so it’s clear that she is
wearing them for purely cosmetic reasons. As you say, to “look smarter”.

bassbam,

A poster from Alaska mentioned the thing with the glasses just after Palin was unveiled. He said that they had the same eye doctor, and that he knew she didn’t need glasses, and that she only wore them to ‘look smarter’.

Then some other poster (not Alaskan, and as unknown as palin) came along to say that he’d seen photos of her as a child, and she had them then. That would apppear to be a lie, or maybe this poster was just ‘special’ because none of the photos of her as a college student show her with glasses.

So, let’s just admit it. She thought they would make her ‘look smarter’ and it doesn’t work, because she is NOT smart, and that’s that. She could put on 10 pairs, and it isn’t going to raise her IQ.

How image versus substance is there in Palin? Here’s one more date point, her eyeglasses appear to be purely cosmetic! She seems to be wearing eyeglasses only to look more serious.

Politics, economics, global events,  war, crime , and weather are all should be even more important on   the evening of a political debate. As a visual aid to the upcoming debate ,to bring everyone up to speed on what is happening,  have 2 large NFL linemen beat GW into unconsciousness   and let him lie there bleeding for the 90 minutes during the debate. Then make an announcement that democracy is entering a new period of accountability. The whole nation could share the some satisfaction regardless of the debate .

You guys should put up that clip of Jack Cafferty calling her interviews pathetic.  There’s been a lot of good clips on the Daily Show lately, too, but maybe those don’t really belong in a news report.

Including a cut from the killer bunny, in Monty Python’s search for the holy grail would be something to include.
