Deanne Stillman’s latest book is the widely acclaimed “Mustang: The Saga of the Wild Horse in the American West,” a Los Angeles Times “Best Book ’08,” winner of the California Book Award silver medal for nonfiction, and recipient of great reviews in the Atlantic Monthly, Economist, Orion, NPR’s On Point, Santa Fe New Mexican, Albuquerque Journal, Missoulian and many other publications. A chapter of “Mustang” is currently in development for a film at the Hallmark Channel. 

Deanne’s previous book was “Twentynine Palms: A True Story of Murder, Marines, and the Mojave,” which Hunter Thompson called “A strange and brilliant story by an important American writer.”  It was an L.A. Times bestseller and “Best Book ’01,” is included in college literary nonfiction courses around the country and is now out in a new, updated edition. 

Deanne’s work is widely anthologized, and her plays have won prizes in festivals around the country. Deanne is currently writing a book based on her Rolling Stone article, “Mojave Manhunt,” which appears in “The Best American Crime Writing 2006” and was a finalist for a PEN journalism award.
