About

Celia Chazelle, Reviewer

Celia Chazelle has taught incarcerated young adult gang members from New Jersey’s inner cities since 2008. Chair of the History Department at The College of New Jersey, she is the founder and co-director of its Center for Prison Outreach and Education, which partners with other central New Jersey organizations to provide college programming in area prisons. Since receiving her PhD in Medieval Studies from Yale University in 1985, she has written widely on medieval history and, more recently, the modern prison system. Her latest book is the co-edited volume of essays, “Why the Middle Ages Matter: Medieval Light on Modern Injustice” (Routledge, 2011).
