New and Improved Comments

We are launching a major overhaul of our comments section.

In addition to more robust spam filtering and moderation, new features include the ability to rate other comments, sort how they are displayed and respond directly via e-mail or in a thread.

Unfortunately, commenters will lose their existing Truthdig identities. It's a pain, we know, but on the plus side you will now be able to log in with a plethora of options, including Google, Twitter, Facebook and Disqus accounts.

Before launching this system we spent months in discussion with our top commenters. We listened to the feedback and we hope you like what we've come up with.

Please direct any problems or concerns to us via our contact page.

The return trip to France went amazingly quickly due to

MOONRAVEN and MIGUEL: If your ancestors weren’t so busy killing each other, you may have stopped the whites from coming. Hell, you helped the gringos cut your own throats.

Comparing today’s world with the one back then is a pointless exercise anyway. The times, they are a’different now. There are no longer vast unspoiled tracts of land for people to disappear in.

If you really want to live in a country like America, fix your own cesspool.

Yes, America has some problems. Most of us are trying to change things. When some people south of the border have problems, they run away to America. Just how friendly do you think the Mexican government is to illegals from south of their border? All you want to do is bitch at the gringos. Typical to blame us for your own damned problems.

MAYBE ETHNIC STUDIES FORGOT TO MENTION THAT UNDER ANCIENT
INDIAN LAW TRESPASSING ON HUNTING GROUNDS OR COMING INTO AN
ENCAMPMENT UNINVITED COULD COST YOUR LIFE OR WORSE YOU COULD
BE CANNIBALIZED-THAT IS ONE PRACTICE THAT ISN’T TALKED ABOUT. SO
REMEMBER YOUR OWN HISTORY WHEN PLAYING THE ROLE OF THE
OLYMPIAN MORALIST AND CHIDING EL GRINGO.

freckle:

Me, sorry?  For what?  For pointing out the continuing gringo policy of genocide?

For telling you to pack your bags.

The only cannibals were the Donner Party—and they were gringos.

But it’s too bad that we DIDN’T have those trespass laws.

My ancestors would have survived.

And you would not exist.

Miguel:

I have been telling these denying doorknobs for YEARS that they are illegal immigrants on Turtle Island.

Every time I tell them to pack their bags and take their chances someplace else I am accused of being a racist and all sorts of other ugly words hit the fan.

They also inists that THEY had nothing to do with that little matter of GENOCIDE—except that they are liars because they make damn sure by their support of the criminal US government that apartheid and other atrocities continue against the native peoples in the rogue state known less than fondly as Gringolandia.

Gee, if you think of it, all white people should be deported back to Europe. They’re here illegally! They came, stole land, killed indigenous people and distroyed the environment.
My people were affected by this, but I learned to forgive and thought that we all should move forward.
Sadly, since the Iraq war, I’ve noticed that white people are still at it, stealing, killing and distroying. I guess the white folk have not bothered to move forward, just their killing technology.
I no longer feel in a forgiving mood.
So, why don’t you all deport your selves from whenc you came? huh?
And take your white GOD with you, too!

Mr Luckovich:
My recommendation for another Statue of Liberty cartoon…
The depiction on this one should read:
“Deported for co-mingling of church and state ideals:  Blatant religious symbolism on public property.”
