New and Improved Comments

We are launching a major overhaul of our comments section.

In addition to more robust spam filtering and moderation, new features include the ability to rate other comments, sort how they are displayed and respond directly via e-mail or in a thread.

Unfortunately, commenters will lose their existing Truthdig identities. It's a pain, we know, but on the plus side you will now be able to log in with a plethora of options, including Google, Twitter, Facebook and Disqus accounts.

Before launching this system we spent months in discussion with our top commenters. We listened to the feedback and we hope you like what we've come up with.

Please direct any problems or concerns to us via our contact page.

corporate fat cats just want to put everybody out of business so they can rake in more and more. This needs to be stopped.

SOPA and PIPA go far beyond merely supporting Intellectual Property rights (however dubious the latter concept may be).

This legislation is really far too important to evoke just in a political cartoon.

For more information, see the WikiP article here.

Read the article, then ask yourself these questions:
•  Why was this legislation proposed by a Dem-Senator and has been placed on hold by another Dem-Senator?
•  Why has the Troglodyte T-Party stated that it is “bad for consumers”, whilst most of the Entertainment Business is for the legislation (that protects Intellectual Property rights)?
•  What is the issue of Intellectual Property (IP) rights and how does Internet piracy affect those rights?
•  Are those who benefit from Intellectual Property rights those in the Media/Entertainment Business who are also a very large part of our “1-percenters”? (IP rights are intended to protect the origin of innovation. But they can also be used to protect market share and implement the high-cost of a product. For instance, why does a small pill like Viagra cost so much? IP patent rights …

There is simply too much riddle revolving around this legislation and the controversy deserves to become more public - so that we, the sheeple, can better understand what is at stake. More so, we need to reflect upon the question of IP-rights and “free market enterprise” that needs competition to keep prices down. I.e., maybe patent law needs changing allowing for smaller periods of patent protection?
