Irrepective of the politics of the recent Nobel Peace prize, its ironic that this cartoon is yet another reflection of the sad state of how science is perceived as part of the broader cultural and civil discourse. The cartoonist is entirely unaware that there is no Nobel Prize for mathematics and never has been.

Just to point out there is no Nobel prize in mathematics. As a mathematician I do find it a little annoying ...

So the story is spun to now make it look like our anger is about him getting it
too soon (the prize). It is not; it is about him getting it in the first p[lace.
Furthermore, these nobel guys actually defended their decision to the
associated press today. And just so you know; the polish/chec citizens were
the ones who stopped Obama from putting up the missile shield. Obama still
wants the shield, and will now have to put it elsewhere. This is a crime to the
American people, spending our money for wars we do not want, and starting a
cold war with Russia all over again. Now we have the nobel people giving him
glory for this. These Nobels are also siding with aggressive war like behavior,
and not “peace”. And now, are no better than the criminals who they have
enabled. This Earth does not have room for more cowardly behavior such as
yours here today. Anyway, this is what they said in the Associated Press today:
“We simply disagree that he has done nothing,” committee chairman
Thorbjoern Jagland told the AP on Tuesday. “He got the prize for what he has
done.”
Jagland singled out Obama’s efforts to heal the divide between the West and
Report thisthe Muslim world and scale down a Bush-era proposal for an anti-missile
shield in Europe.
