For a long time I’ve had that famous sinking feeling that the eight years of Bush/Cheney finished off this nation. There’s no going back from it.

The problem is we don’t see the dozens, hundreds of people just as guilty as he is in the dark behind him.

That’s our despot who altered the course of our history. Putting other despots in that cartoon would have taken away from the profundity of it.

You could put any despot of the past going back at least to Caesar before the overthrow of the republic. Or in any other country where the gov’t still restrains the dictatorial tendencies.
