Why are you stuck on that? There’s absolutely nothing golliwogish about this portrayal, except possibly for his bulging eyes. Besides that, he’s got a big nose and a long beard and the same skin color as the others in the cartoon.
If he did have blackface on, it would be crude, but something worth discussing. Like Mr. Fish stated in a recent cartoon, Obama is a “black politician” not a “black leader” and I do think it is relevant that he has no African-American ancestry.
But this has nothing to do with what this cartoon is trying to say.

Russian Paul, Enlarge the photo. Uncle Sam may be in blackface paint.

NYCartist, It’s hard to make out any of the faces, I think that might be your overactive imagination. However, it is very true that because of the historic nature of Obama’s election, he is capable of continuing many monstrous policies with an improved rhetoric and without too many people noticing. His skin color does make the subterfuge easier.
I still can’t get over the fact he’s boycotting the UN racism conference, not just over Israel, but because of language that discusses reparations for African Americans. I guess it’s not something that applies to him.
As for this cartoon - I like the general premise, but I’m a little confused, why are all the governments who caused the crisis trying to push the globe off the crushed man and it looks like he is holding something in his hand with a dollar sign?
