Why can’t we have it both ways?  I believe in the right to bare arms however, what it the purpose of making automatic and semi-automatice guns?  Isn’t a regular gun enough for protection?  I have been waiting a long time for an answer to this question that would make sense to me.

I count myself as fairly liberal, and I have to say that this is our version of “The Gays are going to Destroy America!” issue. Just like the previous statement, there is no real logic involved, and the anti-gun statements always come down to outraged hyperbole, because there is nothing logical to uphold the argument. A gun is a cold, dead piece of metal, until it is held in a human hand. Take away guns, and people will use knives. The problem isn’t with guns, it’s with a violent culture that says, “Go mess somebody up! It’s fun!” Until you change that, people will always find a tool to hurt each other with. People are REMARKABLY creative with hurting each other. Read a history of weapons, and you’ll see this.

jltnol - 99.9% of all ammo fired by law abiding citizens does not end in death. In fact, most times a trigger is pulled the bullet ends up going through a target and into the dirt.

Criminals do not obey laws. Therefore, any gun control law only applies to law abiding citizens, not criminals.

If all guns and ammo were banned and confiscated, who do you think would protect you? Do you think the police, less than 1% of a population they serve are going to protect the other 99%.

Armed societies are polite societies. Have you ever been to a gun range? I have never seen a group of people be so polite to one another.

BTW, you are 100% wrong about cancer. All cancers are formed and grow due to your surroundings, especially what you eat and put on your body.

There are 50,000 highway deaths per year, so let’s ban cars and trucks!

First off… not every trip in a car or truck ends in death.  Can you say the same about what happens after the trigger is pulled?

There are 500,000+ deaths per year due to cancer, so let’s 1)beef up health care and 2)ban ALL substances that cause cancer.

Cancer isn’t necessarily caused by things or substances…. sometimes they just happen

There are 85,000 deaths per year due to alcohol, so lets ban alcohol.

Again, not every drink ends in a death.  As a matter of fact, I’d say MOST drinks don’t result in death.  But I also say that most times the trigger is pulled, something dies.

etc.  We are very narrow about what we get outraged over.

I’m outraged that you gun totin’ nut jobs just don’t get it.

More guns will NEVER make us safer. Period.

Who do you blame for rapes, appendages?

Yeah, nice cartoon Mike.  Are those blood smears on the flag from the law abiding citizens that were not allowed by law to carry weapons? If so, then you made your point; more law abiding citizens need to be able to keep guns on their person to thwart others who wish to do them harm.  In your perfect world even the criminals would turn in their guns too.  That place is called make believe, because the criminals are not going to give up their guns dipshit.  Only the ones that follow the law will.

Peace

Guns are as much to blame for shootings
as penises are for rapes.

We could just as easily create a flag
with semen splatterings and penises
for stars and call it Rape 2009.

Pathetic.

I pledge alegiance to the gun
and it’s mighty killing power.
And to the NRA which stands for it
through donations and political smear.
One nation under percussion,
with deadly opportunity for all.
