Several thoughts come to mind when I read through many of the anti-Israel posts on these trugthdig Gaza threads…

From my read of the comments I don’t think anyone has personally experienced having his neighborhood bombed. Would those who decry Israel’s response to the almost endless barrage of missiles into residential areas of Sderot, Ashdod and Ashkelon be so sanquine about if these missiles hit their home? What would be the appropriate response in this situation?
Second, suggesting that Zionism is some deplorable political ideology to be made the villain in this situation. I urge all who think this is the case read a definition of the term. Is Zionism different from other forms of national pride?

I think the parties need to establish what do we do now. Not who started this since that discussion goes nowhere and gets nothing accomplished. All sides (there is more than 2!) need to sincerely accept each other’s legitimacy and national pride in order to move forward. Missiles into residential areas and blockades are not the means to the solution.

The Israeli power structure is becoming explicitly ziofascist and we should fight to destroy it.

That said, the cartoon of Mr fish is anti-semetic, proabably inadvertantly.  Hanuchah is a Jewish holiday, not a Zionist holiday, and it is not the Jewish people, and ethnic group, but Jewish power, Zionism,  that is using tanks to kill men, women and children.  The political crimes of a power structure can’t be laid to the people who are often victimized by them.

It is clear that we have a ways to go to distinguish anti-zionism from anti-semitism, since it must be done while opposing Israeli aggression and oppression.

I am sorry you feel that way.  However, it is instructive that you did not disclaim my statement re Hamas.  You did not even address it; you simply engaged in personal attack.

Unless you can show my claim about Hamas and its stated goal - which would preclude ANY “peace” of any sincerity with Israel, under ANY circumstances - to be false, you can engage in all the personal attack you wish: it does not change the facts.

Thank you for finally stating what no one has stated on any of the Gaza-related threads.  It cannot be emphasized enough: the Hamas charter calls specifically for the destruction (or other elimination) of the State of Israel.  Period.  No ifs, ands or buts.  No treaties or truces (that will last).  No simply “autonomy” or “two-state solution” or anything else in which there is still a State of Israel.

And the language is NOT just “hyperbole”; it is the STATED PURPOSE of Hamas.

This is the way terrorist Israel decided to greet the world during this supposedly season of hope.

I used to wish my Jewish friends and colleagues a Happy Hanukkah on this occasion, though very few of them would remember my Holidays.

However, from now on the Hanukah season will be an occasion of tragic remembrance when a horrible massacre was committed against the natives of my original homeland. From now on it would be an act of shameful hypocrisy on my part if I ever again say “Happy Hanukkah” to any one again!

Israel, among other things, has disgraced any meaning to Jewish sacred days!

Whatever redeeming qualities might exist within Israel’s population, the fact their government is so rapacious, so extreme, and so bloodthirsty, leaves the onlooker with nothing left to conclude than it has followed American foreign policy tactics at its own peril.

Americans and Israelis share a common fate: they have allowed their governments to eclipse the good will of the people and those people shall forever regret their rogue government’s legacy.

Loathsome… odd don’t you think? Might it be loathsome to have as a raison d’etre to call for the destruction of another country? Or perhaps is calling for the demise of one country to the exclusion of working for a civil society exemplary?
