Seeing your cartoon made me think about Attorney General Gonzales’ ninety-seven “I don’t remember” answers at a Congressional hearing regarding his firing of nearly a tenth of his senior staff

The Attorney General’s “I know nothing” defense sounds a lot like Sergeant Schultz from the old Hogan’s Heroes TV show.  Should we start calling his boss, President Klink?

What “participatory democracy?”

Those in the USA only THINK they’re living in a democracy. The only thing the people get to vote for are individual representatives that, on their own, are almost powerless.

Once elected these “representatives” vote as instructed by the party whips. The PEOPLE no longer have any effective voice in the proceedings. Oh sure, they can make noise, but a few ear plugs takes care of that minor annoyance (just ask GWB how effective they are).

The whole democratic notion of “government for the people, by the people” has morphed into “government OF the people, by their co-opted representatives.”

Enjoy!
